Dear Andy,

The public desires were not created on day one for XBOX also once it was launched. But see the success of the product in the year 2010.

Even the Android the best selling device in 2010, didnt create queues(i am sorry public desire) when it was launched by google as goole nexus. Only after two years the product became matured and hit the bulls eye. Microsoft has put the right foundation for the Windows Mobile and will only grow as the time passes by.

I've been playing around with a HD7 for the past week. Well, at first I was irritated that its not your old WinMo - cant get at the filesystem among other things.

I don't miss that one bit now. WP7 is very fluid, Simple -

As soon as people realize WP7 is an 180deg turn from the old WinMo.....I expect a huge increase in WP7 sales in the next year.

the G1 (first android phone ever made) on its first day sold 1.5 million
the iphone made the g1 realease look tiny. it is sad when the closest competion still sold 37.5 times more product then you did with their prototype product.
I say win phone 7 is selling awful because microsoft alienated the new users by not having the features that the competitors have
microsoft also alienated their old user base by neutering the operating system and invalidating the entire windows mobile ecosystem. Balmer has made this his baby and I say the shareholders of microsoft should fire his ass. He has made sure that microsoft will never be relevant in the mobile market by botching this important release so badly.

You're mssing the point here. There would only be queues for either higly anticipated/matured products. While it is true that WP7 was highly anticipated, you must understand that because of Microsoft's previous offerings to the mobile market, a greater percentage of the interested customers are going to avoid early adoption and observe the space for a while before jumping in. The scarcity of the devices also isn't helping sales figures. I for one wanted to get the Venue Pro and I'm sure I am not the only one.

I wouldn't count MS out so soon. It looks like they are behind the curve and rushed something out, but the smartphones are just going to keep getting better and better.
They probably figured it was better to show up late to the party than not at all.
I think like their browser, netscape was kicking their butt, but they came back with
something better in the end. So competition will keep the whole smartphone OS's
evolving and hype with an initial launch isn't the whole picture. This is just the first few
laps of the race, as long as the players can stay in it, the better choices for us.

You can't really compare Nexus-One phones to WP7, they weren't offered in stores you could only purchase them online.

The WP7 launch here, and in the states, was a rather botched attempt at a product launch, as if they didn't really care how the product came to market, just wanted to get it there. The initial handset offerings will have many people wishing they'd waited as newer ones become available.

Interestingly, they've hired a team of analysts to assess their launches both here and and abroad: http://goo.gl/1bfO

Such numbers are not reliable at the moment and no indication if WP7 is doing well or not. Fact is that Microsoft has to fight an uphill battle against smart and well positioned competitors. Microsoft was never good but mostly better than the competition. That has changed now. To offer a mobile phone with a IE 7 based browser in 2010 is audacious and a clear indication that Microsoft still doesn't understand what is going on in the Internet. Hello Microsoft: "The times where you could buy market share are gone!"
We want to see good products and a good marketing strategy. The WP7 marketing is an old fashioned disaster which seemed to be produced by egg-heads. That way I would not be surprised if WP7 won't make it. It is simply time for Microsoft to wake up and to produce what people want or to realize that they are going the way of IBM. We as consumers can be happy to have a lot of strong competition in the market. My prediction is that WP7 will make it on the long run to rank 5 behind Android, iOS (iPhone), RIM (Blackberry) and Nokia and will have to fight strongly against HP with WebOS.

I think that the product is only one day old in US. Lets give it time and you can't compare the sales figures of Android /iPhone with the Windows Phone 7 sales figures. They are matured products.

Also the XBOX which when launched gave a loss to the Microsoft in the initial years and now its a profitable business in year 2010.

And BTW, how many Nexus phones were sold out on day one....
