Olympus OM-D E-M1 mirrorless camera is ruggedized with fast autofocus

Olympus has trotted out an interesting new Micro Four Thirds mirrorless digital camera that has some very interesting features. Olympus says that the new digital camera will provide the highest ever image quality offered in one of its cameras thanks to a new 16.3-megapixel LiveMOS sensor and a new TruePic VII image processor. The camera also offers high-speed Dual Fast AF.

That special autofocus system uses both Contrast AF and on-chip Phase Detection AF. The camera also integrates a new electronic viewfinder system using the latest features allowing the electronic viewfinder to rival the magnification and enhancement creativity found on full-frame SLR cameras. The camera also has a number of creative modes and art filters built-in.

The camera also has a robust five-axis image stabilization system that's able to remove all types of camera shake. The camera is ruggedized allowing it to survive dust, splashes, and freezing temperatures. Olympus guarantees that the camera will operate correctly in temperatures as cold as -10°C. The camera also supports HDR shooting and handheld starlight shooting.

The camera will be offered in one of three packages with availability set for October. Olympus is mum on the pricing for any of these packages at this time. The camera will come in a kit featuring the body and a BCL-1580 lens. The camera will also be available in a kit with the body and a M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-50 mm F3.5-6.3 EZ lens. The camera is available in another kit featuring a M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40 mm F2.8 Pro lens. A number of accessories ranging from cases to extra batteries and an underwater case will be available as well.
