Back when the One Laptop Per Child program was announced, people were overjoyed by the cost of the notebook. A stunning $100 goal was set. Unfortunately, the price of the laptops keeps rising closer to double that.

OLPC

The project leaders have recently announced that the price per laptop is now up to $188, that’s $12 higher than their last estimate, or $55 more than they originally announced. Don’t get me wrong, that’s still a great price for a fully-functional laptop, it’s just a lot more than they originally told everyone.

Spokesperson George Snell has promised that they are doing everything they can to keep the cost from rising above $190. They have stated that the $100 pricetag was a long-term goal, I’m just wondering how long it will be before that goal can be reached.
