I’ve never really been too worried about someone stealing my phone, though I’m sure that the risk is always there. I generally keep my Helio tucked away in my pocket when I’m not talking on it, and I don’t think anyone would really want to fish around in my pocket to nab my phone. If this next technology takes off, I would worry even less.

Oki Electric is currently developing an iris recognition technology for cell phones. I knew that it was only a matter of time before the technology was adopted elsewhere. This is a great idea, as with almost all cell phones, you already have the camera. Just an extra piece of software is all this would require.

The software currently runs on both Windows Mobile and Symbian platforms, so it’s compatible with most phones out there. Unfortunately, that leaves people like me with my Helio, and others with the iPhone out in the cold for now.
