Video calling just doesn’t seem to be the cash generator any cellphone network operator, phone manufacturer or future forecaster wants to think it will be. I can remember, when I was younger, thinking about how great it would be to not only hear people but see them again; now, I’ve got a 3G cellphone, but do I video-call anyone? Nope. However, Ojo, created by WorldGate and marketed by handset giant Motorola, is another attempt to change all that, and their confidence must’ve been boosted by settling a huge deal with Telecom New Zealand.
The Ojo will be available for a flat monthly rate, and connect via either cable or DSL broadband; WorldGate claim that it’ll be plug’n'play. SlashGear have actually got one of these sexy things on the way, so we’ll be running a review as soon as we’ve got over the shock of seeing each other grinning in glorious technicolour.
