It will cost you data (it would be like constantly streaming a youtube video) which would also kill your battery much quicker, a native app won't have such drawbacks.

Keeping Office to itself is certainly a smart business decision, it will only come to iPad if Windows 8 either dominates the tablet market OR if it completely flops. Anything inbetween would ensure Office stays exclusive.

Office on iPad would be a financial disaster for Microsoft.

They could not sell it for the price of a desktop version, they would need to go with a way lower price point.
I would buy Office for the iPad, but only if the price is attractive.
If not, no worries - there will be alternatives, maybe even a free one like LibreOffice.

If Microsoft does not introduce Office for iOS they might accelerate the migration from Windows to the Apple universe. They would be ill advised if they do not release office for iOS, it would hurt them in the medium term because people would start not to care about it so much any more.

I would like to a see a completely revamped Office suite, but not from Microsoft.
They are too confined to their way of thinking.

The functionality an office package offers should be completely re-thought and implemented in much much better way, in a much more "human" user friendly way.

MS office is a bad piece of software, it has been ever since, we are just used to it.
