ocz rolls out affordable ssds 1

OCZ technology has released drop-in 2.5-inch SATA-II solid-state drives with storage capacity starting at 30GB for only $129. The new Vertex Series of SSD drives are a premium MLC based SSD solution for those who need a fast and reliable form of storage.

The Vertex drives make good use of the newest architecture and controller designs with 64MB of cache to give users even faster transfers and amazing overall system response times no matter what you are using it for. Solid-state drives offer no moving parts inside a lightweight aluminum housing to offer an estimated 1.5 million-hour mean time before failure (MBTF).

You can configure the Vertex drives in RAID arrays if that is what you are looking for. These drives offer read speeds of up to 200 MB/s, write speeds up to 160MB/s, and an average seek time under one tenth of a millisecond. These drives have very low energy consumption at 2 Watts of power in use and only half a Watt in standby mode. You can pick one of these drives in 30, 60, 120, and 250GB at prices of 129, $249, $469, and $869. All drives come with a two-year warranty.

Wow, 160MB/s write that’s nice, I just don’t like the fact that they announce this the day I receive my brand new SSD with only 93MB/s write, but hey, I paid half the price of these new vortex drives so it’s still worthwhile.
