If you have
a video (from YouTube) of a game running DX8 with something like this post it
because I have to see it. For that time sure you have “smoke” effects but the difference
is that they were software generated like multiple layers trying to make
something similar to smoke, after that appeared volumetric smoke that look like
this but it is not the same thing because it was just a simple animation on the
scene without any interaction something like a ghost if you have PhysX the smoke
is hardware generated and interacts with everything that is on the scene and if
you walk thru the smoke it will react like real smoke, the player can interact
with it and have different results. This applies to particles, water, fabric,
fire, full live interaction nothing pre-generated!!!

Ok my question to anyone who knows, based on the video the gtx 560 is based on a single gpu or dedicated one? If so does this mean we do not need a dedicated gpu to run physx in this game like metro 2033?

And as far a I know the 8800s can also run as a dedicated physx gpu.

I admit, it looks good. But like a lot of other supposedly enhanced content in other titles, much of the extra stuff should be easily doable on non-nVidia (hardware PhysX) graphics hardware and current-gen CPUs. I noticed that the smoke effects and paper blowing around went missing on the left size screen. Folks, a lot of that stuff has been around since DX8, so the only reason I can think that the non Phys-X game doesn't have it is to try to make the difference seem greater than it really is otherwise. I admit, the hallway scene with stuff flying around looked pretty impressive, as did the money in Catwoman's fight scene. But again, the effects were completely neutered out of the non-PhysX side, when that sort of thing has been possible for a while now (years), if not to the level the PhysX side is showing.

I guess if they put in any floating money / debris, they're afraid it makes PhysX seem less impressive? I seriously don't think that would've been the case. Removing doable effects from the game otherwise though, now that makes me feel a bit less impressed with PhysX, as if they're trying to hide how small the difference between non-PhysX and PhysX enabled game effects really are by exaggerating the capabilities of PhysX.
