I think that the tablets will ramp up market share twice as fast as the phones, I give it 1 year before android/misc has over half the market.

Everyone with an android phone is seeking a tablet made with the same precision.

Android and its manufacturers have learnt allot in the last 2 years that they don't need to relearn with tablets.

Totally agree. Look at the Asus Transformer for proof of that.

I really wish we could see the sales number of gTablets, Nook Colors, Velocity Cruzes, elocity 7s, and other pre-Honeycomb tablets. People are still buying these devices now and rooting them with custom roms!

In all honesty, when faced with the limitations of iOS, I don't mind paying a $100 premium for a tablet. That said, both the Acer Iconia A500 and the Asus Transformer are selling incredibly well for two tablets not mass-marketed.

I've spent a good chunk of time debating the weaknesses of both tablets with people on forums and while I'm not willing to settle for any Honeycomb tablet, a good majority...I'd say more than 75% of Android tablet buyers are! The biggest factor always comes back to the fact that it's not the iPad. It looks different. It works differently. VARIETY!

Android devices take big leaps in hardware advancement while Apple purposefully feeds the public with small, incremental upgrades. Even the average consumer is starting to see that.

The fact is Apple have not changed their business model so why do you expect the tablet situation to end up any different.

I can't tell you how many people bought Nook Colors, Viewsonic gTablets, and other Froyo tablets in the past six months but I know just by looking at the Android communites and by my own personal friends that many people were interested enough to buy.

Apple fanboys can continue to claim the iPad is strong but the truth is that it won't be able to dominant the market alone against an army of Android devices at numerous price points flooding the market.

Yeah. You're right. That's exactly what happened with the Android phones. Come on...let's use our brains here. Android is the dominant phone platform for a reason.

Not everybody wants the same phone. Now Apple is repeating the same mistake with the iPad.

If you don't learn from history, you're doomed to repeat it. You're making a foolish mistake if you're discounting the HUGE number of people actually buying an Android device. If you think those people are going to buy iPads and spend money all over again for the same apps, then I would say you don't know what you're talking about. Most of those Android phone owners are going to purchase an Android tablet so they can use the same apps they bought before. They already know how what the Android experience is like and going back to any iOS device at that point is horrific.

Don't even bother mentioning Windows as a platform at this point. Every single review says that the operating system is not suited for a touch experience. I'm hoping they pull things together but I don't see it happening.

Newsflash: Android is already beating iOS at delivering devices to the hands of consumers. That includes all iOS based devices combined. 400'000 per day vs 350'000 per day.
So it's a matter of time, till Android takes the top spot in the overall number of users.

WP7 could take off in 2012, not earlier. Nobody is producing WP7 devices in high enough numbers, neither is there much demand.

There might be two origins of oil, who knows.

What I do know is that there soon will be a third source of oil that mimics the "natural" process that took mother nature so long to convert biomass into oil and compresses the whole thing into an industrial process. So one day not too far away may depend much less on regular sources of oil. Which means that of peak oil will need to be redefined and may loose its threat.

Yes, that is right. New resources are being developed, new technologies are applied and consumption is being (partially) reduced, machinery becomes more efficient (we hope). Various forms of gas, solar energy and other sources of energy are developed and deployed.

And some say that there is enough oil available for the next 200-300 years but no one would like to says this since it would "harm" the oil price. Who knows. At the end of the day, the reported peak oil still seems to be 40 years away and lets hope it stays like that ...

Absolutely agree on the pricing point. Current pricing on decent tablets is ridiculously high.

Until we see sub-250 prices for a Tegra2 level Honeycomb tablet I wouldn't think volume sales will build up in the Android camp. Eh, we need to wait for Tegra3 coming and destroying Tegra2 tablet prices.

Peak oil is a myth, sorry for interrupting, I'm not some rightwing nut, but some people I listen to seem to think oil is not a fossil fuel, but simply a part of the earth's crust, a geologic product, not biologic in any way. So it's here to stay, i guess... no hard feelings, I got no proof anyway

1. 3 years in gadget industry is a very long time for any meaningful predictions.
2. 51:49 is just about outselling right? so does it mean that the entire industry with their collective effort needs 3 loooooooooooooooooooong years to bring down the Apple's ipad market share below 50%
3. hmmm. is he serious when he says outselling? or did he actually wanted to say 'outshipping'?

200 variants of tablets are expected to be around.

Customers will be confused and will go for either an iPad 3/4/5 or an Windows 8-based platform (once available).

Android tablets are a fuzzy bunch. Look at the HTC Flyer. A nice tablet but it does not even come close to hold its promise which is to use it like a notebook and take (and manage) handwritten notes.
Good idea but it will take a couple of product generations to make it work as expected.

Peak oil is always 40 years away, year after year. Android will beat Apple in two years, same story. Apple will continue to grow with a healthy margin.

Pure computing speed will not be so all important for tablets unless you have applications that take advantage of it. There will be other factors who will make those mobile products attractive, computing power is just one of them. 2/4/8/16/many cores are available who's willing to make the investment and that of course includes Apple. Android's success will be limited by WinPhone soon. For the average user WinPhone will be a better solution than Android. WinPhone will expand on the cost of Android.

And, at the end of the day, 22nm or 14nm tri-gate Intel silicon (custom tailored Atom SoCs) will give ARM and nvidia a tough time and lesser margin. nvidia have two years to enjoy a good business than they'll get into real trouble.

Unfortuantely the IPAD is a stronger tablet than the iphone is a smartphone. Android tablets still have a long way to go. It is sad really that the android has not reacted quickly enough as I want to like android tablets but can't right now.

For one they need to sort out pricing on tablets like the original galaxy tab, htc flyer, xoom etc to actually give a price advantage over the ipad rather than assuming lower volumes and aiming for high margins. In the long run getting more people to own a decent android tablet will help the whole android camp in the future.
