Google has just announced that it’s popular Google Voice is now allowing number porting for existing customers. Google says the porting takes about 24 hours and is currently only available for current Google Voice users.  Porting may become available to new users within the next few weeks.

Now you can take advantage of all the great Google Voice features such as voicemail transcriptions, call screening, customized greetings, and text messages. However, the option to port will cost you $20 and you will have to cancel your existing mobile plan to get it all started. For some, this may mean contract cancellation fees, so please check with your provider first.  Currently only available in the US.
