Voice will get better and better as time go's on. Like with browsers there will be many choices to choose from but the big players in this feild will likely be Apple/siri, Google voice and Microsofts talk to me. Independents like this effort will find it difficult to compete and if they do manage a better alternative then they will most likely be bought out by one of these guys.

Really don't like this. V lingo is the default voice input system on the GS2. Samsung have integrated it heavily into their phones and it is the biggest non google siri competitor. Having a company owned by apple, buying it is not in anyone interest.

Sounds like apple is trying to buy the competitions alternative

I feel nuance is too late to the party. The advantage that Apple and Google have is an absolute and near absolute control of value chain respectively.

In Apples case they can outright deny a competing offering ( Vlingo though is currently available on Apple's App store and nuance currently powers Siri itself ) from Nuance. They probably won't but would do what Google will do on Android. In Googles case it's own offering can easily overwhelm Nuances+Vlingos offering due to its immense resources and deep OS integration. Google can make their offering default too ( like what Microsoft did with browsers untill lately). Nuance+Vlingo cannot.

PS: I am sure many Fandroids never knew that Vlingo was available on the Apple app store for a long time now ( even before Siri was launched on 4s)

You can bet that Vlingo won't be free anymore. At any rate, Google will certainly have it's own Siri that will be embedded in the OS sometime in the future which Nuance can't fully achieve. Perhaps Google should buy Nuance...
