Perhaps one concern is their active support for WikiLeaks; which revealed so much of the dirty deals and crimes the NSA (and western governments) get up to behind our backs. Anonymous can make this multi-billion-dollar agency look incompetent; they really hate that.

I’m not even sure if many of them qualify as hackers.

From what I’ve seen, they mostly just get together and run DDoS scripts to try and crash the servers.

Mainly, it ends up being an annoyance rather than something earth shattering, or policy changing.

What the hell are you talking about? No, really. They did absolutely nothing to defeat SOPA or PIPA. All they ever do is rage out and take down websites associated with businesses, the government or capitalism in general. Hell, one week ago they took down NASDAQ’s site. Because yeah, taking down the de facto tech stock market’s website has SO much to do with freedom and democracy.

You want to give any one group credit for SOPA and PIPA being placed on the back burner, look no further than Wikipedia.

Even if they could (they shouldn’t be able to, vital services like this should have the BEST security) don’t lightning strikes and other natural events cause “limited power outages” with much higher frequency and have almost no impact on peoples lives.

However I’ve got a great way to stop Anon attacking. Start listening to the people and stop treating our rights like minor annoyances.
