Nova iPhone light adds external flash

The iPhone may already have an LED light for its camera, but a wireless flash that can fit in your wallet but make a big difference in how your photos and videos look aims to replace it. Nova squeezes forty points of LED light and a white diffuser, scaled to the size of a credit card, and with a choice of tones to suit different lighting conditions.

The one-ounce card can be switched between three different presets to suit the scene. There's a soft light mode for helping cut out shadows, as well as a warm light for more flattering skin tones.

Finally, the light also offers a full brightness setting, for simply illuminating the scene as much as possible. Alternatively, the companion app can be used for more granular control, mixing warm and cool light -as well as brightness – to the photographer's own preference.

Nova raised its initial funding on Kickstarter late last year, pulling in more than three times its original goal in the process. Hooking up to an iPhone via Bluetooth LE, like a regular add-on camera flash the gimmick is that you can separate it from the camera itself for more flexibility in what's illuminated.

It'll work with the iPhone 4S, 5, 5C or 5S, and Nova previously said it was working on an Android app for support there, too. It's available now, priced at $59.99.

Update: We've been in touch with Nova, and while an Android version was originally planned, the company now says it has no current intention to release a version for Google's OS.
