I almost ordered one. Then I heard people all over the net complained about the ordering and return process. Order stuffs internationally is always a pain. Now I hear all those horrible news about the UI and the hardware. I think I may want to wait for the NEXT NEXT generation Notion Ink when they has their own US store. Or, I can just order a Xoom tablet which I can return easily in US and from a company, Motorola, which, also makes my Droid phone.

I’m pretty amused that the release of this device is causing flame wars. Is it like this for all new computing devices?

And yea, I just posted a comment making fun of comments. Isn’t that ironic and meta? I think so. I think it’s awesome.

In any case, I don’t suppose we could give Notion Ink another week to release updates before we hand down the judgment, could we?

I love it!

What many of you don’t realize, especially that one’s complaining about purchasing an untested product, is that NI is going through the natural pains of a startup. It makes no difference whether we are talking about NI today or Apple 30+ years ago (or today).

All the haters should remember that Apple was an untested company/product at one time. If you have no faith in the product, don’t purchase it.

All the people who preorder should have known what they were in store for. SNAFU’s happen and NI won’t be the last company to have issues with their FIRST product launch.

BTW can I buy a white iphone? No wait they only sell black. Why is that?
Don’t forget to buy a case for it if you plan on using an iphone 4 for phone calls.

No, it just takes a lot of time. MS spends months on testing, thats why security patches are released so late. But look at the customers, they all want the new Android already even before they have the original device in their hands. And of course it has to be for free.

@quaint: At least one person who bought the Adam gives to Wikipedia annually and also supports Doctors without Borders monthly. But neither those donations nor the money used to purchase the Adam were throw-away. It all returns value.

Please read the article before jumping to conclusions. If the device can be reflashed then it isn’t bricked. A few unsuccessful updates is nothing unheard of in this industry; NI are also working on it.

Give the NI team a chance, they’ve worked hard to deserve it.

I went over to the adam fans forums and watched the user video from a guy called ‘mada’, major kudos to him for getting the video out so quickly. However he is not on the whole positive and its not just on software issues (which can be expected), it sounds like there are enough issues to stop me from buying one as a toy for trying other OS’s.

Maybe you cant make a decent tablet for under $700 yet.

btw. I was really looking forward to the adam and was very close to pre-ordering, I am glad I didn’t now.

Whatever user reviews that are available suggests a not so impressive adam..glossy screen..wrong pin plug for non-US customers. So much for the fuss regarding NI paying attention to details. Was very enthusiastic about adam but getting realistic now. Is it so difficult to test the software before shipping it?

These people don’t understand that we are not in love with the device, nor do we share any Platonic feelings about it. We have been enthusiastically supporting NID because we find their approach and dedication different and refreshing, as compared to the calculated and manipulative techniques that major tech companies employ.

What differentiates us from the iFanbois is that we don’t want to look cool and ‘with it’ by just following the moneyed herd, but are eager to see this underdog startup succeed, because it represents a rare creed of honesty and bravery.

To many of us ‘fanbois’, the Adam does not represent the latest and greatest device, you know, the ‘lead role in a cage’ one, but rather one that gives us a walk on part in the war. Therefore, we exchange predictability for the thrill.

Have you ever experienced a feeling in your life when you just can’t wait to get something? Devoted adamites were waiting far too long for this tablet to come, they’re nearly obsessed and the release date was postponed earlier. I’m waiting for the Adam reviews but I sort of envy the Adamites who didn’t wait for them, they have a passion and not just a cosumer attitude.

i dont mind abt NI or adam, i just wonder how foolish and blind people are in throwing their hard-earned /saved money at purchasing a gadget they have not even seen once or tried.
people who have this sort of throw-away money could donate that money to those who are in need, or even to profitless-orgs like wikipedia, etc.
