Adam is not compatible with Honeycomb. NI created their own version of the OS, Eden. For applications notion Inc created their own application store, because their version of the OS is not compatible with Andriod Market,

Today is January 22, Sunday. and Adam still not shipped yet.
Rohan Shravan is just a lair, which is trying to create nice publicity by clearing all negative responds on his blog. The most interesting thing is a quantity of the Adam which was pre ordered. There are rumors that this is just couple of hundreds, less than a thousand

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to buy a Notion Ink Tablet until I read some stuff a website called notioninkhacks.com The tablet looks very promising and I can’t wait to get it. I would also recommend that everyone visit that website and sign up for the forums. Looks like it’s going to be a great community .

First of all, 3G will not be free, or somebody is going to lose money. Second of all, it will definitely not be an iPad killer because of Apple’s superior advertising abilities. More people know about the iPad, so more people will buy it. It is definitely a better device than the iPad, but it’s just that people are going to know a brand like Apple more than NotionInk.

I’ve been awaiting the release of the NI tablet/Adam since I first encountered the concept on Engadget a long while back. Also stumbled on it because of my interest in the Pixel Qi screens, which I knew about from reading about the OLPC and Mary Lou Jepsen (sp?). Anyhow…like Rebekah, I have a Droid, and can’t wait to dump it for a ‘dumbphone’ and instead use a 3G tablet — and Adam is supposed to have 3G HSPA+, which is way faster than standard 3G…at least I hope it’s that variety. Which in my metro, NYC, means T-mobile…which is supposed to be great here (in Manhattan — I don’t really need to worry about off-island).

I have never really been interested in Ipad. No usb, no flash and just not that impressed with i-anything. I am looking forward to this so i can check email, surf, play a few games, read and not be locked to my desktop or business laptop. I will also be getting rid of my droid phone and the extra $30 web and $8 insurance charge per month. I work from home, rarely go out and everywhere I go (that I would need/want it) I have wifi access, so the smart phone access is a bit superfluous for me. I’m willing to have a simple phone, save over $450 per year and have this tablet for my off-work time. Seems perfect for someone like me!

I really miss the old days where people used to keep their mouths shut until they actually had a product in their hands. It saved everybody the embarassment and the frustration.

This comes with two usb ports so my guess is you can use any keyboard that has a usb cable. So you have lots of keyboards to choose from if it does support those.

You are very correct but what scares me is that one of these “Monster-ations” might absorb Notionink rebrand Adam and lock all its goodness, cripple it. I really hope Adam is free and open and not be DRMware :(

is input method a virtual keyboard? It would be sweet to have a keyboard dock of some kind. I will be hard pressed to choose between this and the PalmPad. Yes this one is more full featured but I’m afraid it may not be done elegantly. Tho that pixelqi is amazing.

Of course I will buy the pixel qi model. This thing will be for heavy reading, and media content consumption.
My Ipad was shallow in this sense, so I gave it to my father (he loves it since he’s not a technology friendly person) Fuck the Ipad, I have an Ipod touch.
I’ve already tested what applications I can use with the android OS: chm, pdf, djvu and online magazines like the new england journal of medicine. As a doctor the Adam will be a dream come true.

You probably might not miss anything except itunes and apple’s app store. With Andoird there are endless opportunities.
Infact you get a lot of extras with ADAM:- a swivel camera, a back trackpad, Pixel-Qi screen(if you wish to have 449 or 498 model), ability to run flash, bluetooth and much more that you won’t get in an ipad.

Stupid question: What kind of content am I going to miss?

Its based on Android, so there probably already are plenty of apps working right away or with little modification.

If you’re complaining about the missing iTunes store or electronic newspaper, I couldn’t care less.

I don’t need people to show me where I get my content from, thank you very much. To the contrary, such offers are more likely to lead to vendor-lockin, suddenly I have to jailbreak my device to run my own apps or consume the content I want but that is not provided by the vendor. If you need stuff like this, Apple should be all you need.

Agreed that huge corporations are out there – everyone with an “idea” of bringing in a tablet sometime this or next year. ADAM’s launch has been placed very strategically. It could have lost to the iPad if launched any earlier. Now they have some empty frames to fill in, and this is where they need to prove the mantle of ADAM, Android and open-source industry.
Also, the pricing is very very competitive. If you look at the top model – $498 which is $200 less than an equivalent iPad (you would have to buy the SD card though – 20 bucks). I doubt if HP or Microsoft or Samsung or anyone would launch tablets starting at $399 – atleast for time being. I mean they sell phone that cost $500+!

I think the storage would be through multimedia cards. Notion Ink’s website says 16/32 Gb eMMC!

Meh. It looks cool enough, but this is going to fail. I bet you anything that they won’t be able to secure ANY major content agreements. You think the major studios and publishers are going to strike a deal with the Notion Ink Adam guys? Not gonna’ happen.

You’ll be able to browse the internet and maybe type a document or whatever, but there’ll be no content available for this thing.
