I can answer your first question about the SIM card, which would be for 3G internet connectivity, as well as being able to make phone calls. The last time I checked Samsung Galaxy Tab and Notion Ink Adam were the only two “tablets” that were able to make phone calls with the SIM card. I for one, am looking forward to carrying around the Notion Ink Adam with a Bluetooth earpiece or a headset to replace my mobile phone.

I hope to get the Adam unlocked so that I can simply put in my current SIM card and get rolling. It would suck if it was locked down to one carrier, which seems to be the trend these days.

What I want to know is:

What purpose does the slot for a SIM card serve?
What version are the USB ports & microSD slot?
Will I need a wireless provider or have they cut some deals with providers like the Kindle DX has?

i’m excited about this tablet. i could care less if it’s an ipad killer or not. just give me something i can put my mitts on. so far, this tablet has pretty much everything i’m looking for in a tablet. as tom petty said, ” the waiting is the hardest part “. let’s hope this actually makes it to the production line.

True, and the switch was there all the time as well, to switch between the 2 display modes that the tablet supports. The only new thing is that for the models that have only one mode it will serve as an on/off switch instead.

Your title is misleading. The Adam hasn’t hit the FCC yet.

The previous news on the Adam’s FCC submission was:
“The product will shoot for FCC certifications in the second week of November. And then it depends on them. Add few more logistics issues to that and it can swing either way. (Don’t get surprised it we hit for certification in October, cos there is some tight buffer, though that will be extremely good news).”

The latest update is:
“according to new schedule we will hit for FCC certifications a week earlier than scheduled”

So, they are now shooting for submitting it to the FCC in the first week of November. It hasn’t gotten there yet.
