This product/project looked really exciting last year and I was really hoping to see it in 2010 but it didn't happen. Lets remember pre-order opened in December last year so they should have been able to make a real splash with the finished product at CES 2011 but they haven't.

Rohan allowing a reporter to have a play while he stands there isn't my idea of a 'hands on' and I think we have to ask why when customer models are supposedly already in the postal system and should be arriving like yesterday, there are no press models available?

I think Rohan is playing the game many small companies have to play when they don't have their own cash and so far he’s been able to kid some of the people some of the time to jump through the hoops set for Notion Ink by his backers.

My guess is that they had to prove the software in order to get a guaranteed build and they had to get a guaranteed build in order to get Pixel QI.

That done he seems to have got a limited run made (we'll see if he really did in the next few days I guess) but the thing is, it's might now too late.

Only Eden, QI, the radio and the rotating camera remain novel, but for most consumers Eden's uniqueness will be superseded by Honeycomb the camera and radio are gimmicks and with most iPad owners apparently afraid to take their tablet outside and with virtually every reviewer of the iPad and its 10 inch competitors claiming them to be too heavy to use as an e-reader alternative QI isn't nearly as important as Notion's fans think it is.

Yes the Notion fans (or trolls) have done a fantastic job of getting the Adam mentioned on the comments section of every tech blog but as the old saying goes you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

I wish them well but I've already seen tablets I want more, not to mention being fairly happy and impressed with the iPad I bought LAST SPRING when Notion could have had my money instead.

If they don't make it, lets hope they are remembered like Betamax and not like Gizmondo.

Good job guys, I've been following the Notion Ink from the start and it's nice to see it's finally looking like a polished product. It's a tough space (tablets) to compete in but if the Adam still has an edge over the others, it should do well.

I'll probably be getting a tablet later this year-I'm waiting for the new crop to come out first like the iPad2). Of course I'll give every tablet a fair shake and then buy the one I think is best. Adam and iPad2 are definitely on my radar.

No, the mystery feature is instead of the trackpad.

They've said quite explicitly that they intended to have the trackpad but it didn't work out, so it is disabled, and they have included a mystery feature to replace it (i.e., a promised feature won't be in it, so another feature will be in it instead).

Think it through: why would they start calling a feature which they had already described a "mystery feature"?

"They will go broke before then as this is not a viable number"
What? the company size is 110 people in India, marketing budget is $0 why would they go broke? Rohan already said that money is not in the Hardware, its in the eco system, until he has the ecosystem in place he would not like to have millions of adams out there, it doesn't make sense.

Can not believe when reading stuff like Adam is not smooth. Adam is the fastest tablet in the moment and I think it will be for months. Eden is so impressive smooth and the whole UI is perfectly addiction to Adams Hardware. I spend so much time on viewing video demos on it that I am absolutely sure that Adam will revolutionize the tablet world. Motorolas Xoom, crap, ipad2 - no need, acer - fine but just not what Adam is and will be delivered with Adam. Guys I preordered 2 adams. Sure I do not need pixel qi cause my Adam is a home gadget. And in two weeks, when I hold it in hands, all the samsung and apple fanboys will look at their device, lay it down, and visit www.notionink.com to find out: Adam is sold out! Visit notioninker.de for my Adam-Blog. It's German but you can google-translate it with a widget on the right. Leave a facebook I like per button, if you like my blog

Still as you say 100k units a month is not enough. They will need to increase production by an order of magnitude.

I do agree that Notion Ink is suffering from too much secrecy. This may work for Apple who is big enough, and proven enough, to tease the customers, but has backfired a bit for Notion Ink, what with the rumors of vaporware and scams.

I'm thinking they should have been much more forthcoming and put as many units in the hands of reviewers as soon as possible, back in July or August. Better to build solid hype then teasing people into thinking they are being scammed.

That said, I'm very excited about this tablet and plan on getting one as soon as I have the money saved for it.

Honeycomb will run on Notion ink. It has already been confirmed by NI in their interview with Endgadget. It will run on adam as soon as it is out. Eden is an add-on. It can run along with honeycomb. So adam users will have both. And google market will also come with honeycomb. Also all the apps of the market can be downloaded on adam and can be run. Check out notion inks blog to see how to do it.
I think adam is the best out there because of pixel qi. The only thing adam needs is maybe a digitizer and HD camera and it will be best out there. Which will come in adam 2 and along with the back side trackpad.
Its hardware design is the best and its the best price around $ 500

Sure honeycomb isn't out yet, but I saw some teaser videos which blow Eden out of the water. When honeycomb is available later this year, will Notion Ink support it for their Adam devices? I would need an official statement from them saying that all Adam devices will be Honeycomb upgradeable before purchasing their device.

All the Admas they can make? How many is that? They said they will have a peak capacity of 100K units a month, and I assume that includes all variants. Even if they were to sell all 100K, that would take almost a year for a million units. They will go broke before then as this is not a viable number. We don't even know how many they had for preorder - and selling a few thousand to tech geeks won't keep them in business.

I have yet to see any news of this tablet anywhere except at Slashgear. Perhaps we will hear more today, but it is not a good thing when we hear Motorola, Samsung, Asus, RIM, etc. mentioned all over the place, and nary a word about the Adam.

And, with all the interviews, we still don't know about FCC certification, mystery feature, shipping dates, retail availability, etc. What the hell are they waiting on?

Sorry - they need marketing more than anything else. More and more this is looking like another tech gadget that has promise but is going to flop big time.

I certainly agree with all the comments that notion ink needs some better marketing to help get the tablet off the ground but at the same time it is looking like a great product and hopefully that will be enough. It is also unfortunate that they didn't release just a little earlier, they would have had a major advantage with that hardware but now it's pretty much the norm. The Pixel QI and price point are the only advantages left as well as the UI of course but from what I can tell that still needs a little work to really be amazing. Anyone heard anything about video recording on the device? would be great if it had 720p. My guess (or hope) for mystery feature is Tesla Touch, that would knock the Adam out the ballpark!

I already have many tech-savvy users asking me when they can order the Adam, particularly the Pixel Qi version. Notion Ink does not have the money to bribe publications into flooding the airwaves with product plugs like they do for 'other companies', but if they have the right partners, we'll start to see much more of them.

I, for one, would love to see their promo video from their website on Indian TV channels.

My feelings are positive and negative at the same time. The product looks quite good despite some drawbacks (like huge bezel and rather bulky design) but from organizational point of view this may be a big failure. Even if they deliver couple of preordered devices, ordinary customer still can't buy it. Their home page is pretty dead (very little information). It's a pity because it looks like these guys put a lot of effort in this product which in the end may end as a good product but with no sales which means a failure. Time will tell...

Much as I would like NI to be a huge success, let's face facts - it's too little, too late. Had they released this 3 months ago, it would have been a whole different story.

We still don't have a firm shipping date, no FCC approval, the pre-launch was a fiasco showing a complete lack of organization, etc. etc. The masses are not going to buy this without a lot of buzz from the press, availability at the Best Buy's of the world, and a solid customer support organization behind it. None of which NI has.

Custom UI is great if you are a large, well known company. The masses don't care how sexy it is.

The only hope is if CES is a huge success for NI and the press is full of praises. Unless you see NI plastered all over the mainstream press (WSJ, NY Times, et al), this puppy will have a not so slow death. So far I don't see it.

I hope the fat lady is not getting ready to sing.
