The Author seems to think the GPS antenna is the processor. LOL. And the strands are the very necessary to connect to the antenna and will be their in any device that has WiFi, Blue tooth, GPS etc. IPhone has them just as the cheap chinese knockoff do too.
BTW teardowns are never pretty, just see the Apple iPhone 4 tear downat the fcc site. This article is very unfair and mis informative. Hmm I wonder why.

Further the internal build seems quite good, and the chips (all hidden under paper cutouts) are thin and so I assume use less than 45/35 nm thin Si Wafer technology. Hence the low power consumptions and long battery life. Which is same as the Intel core 2 duo which has 45 nm wafers.

Due to their very tight schedule, I’d say this device was simply done before mass production was fully there. And even if production quality really results in reduced life-time, I’m pretty sure the vendor is responsible for fixing such issues.

@Tuc, I believe the first pre-order is going out in 3 waves. Only the first and smallest wave of shipments has occurred. Quite likely that it is only a couple hundred units at most. Total shipments should be a couple thousand. Should see more reviews the first and second week of Feb (i.e., second wave occurs in a couple of days).

One of the first persons to pre-order an adam posted that the pre-order website appeared to have a decreasing counter. If this counter was the number of available units, the first pre-order probably involved between 3600 and 4000 units (i.e., number he saw was about 3600). Your point is still valid, though.

Are you saying that the final product which reached the customers has connections made by hand as shown in that picture. In that picture I can see more than 30 connections. Let us say, they are shipping 20000 tablets for the pre-ordered customers. That is more than six hundred thousand connections just for that single part. Is that really practical?
There must be a very simple explanation and I guess it is pretty obvious.

I think your comment would be better aimed at Engadget (and Crunchpad – wait till they pick this up), who seem to be bent on wiping out the market for the Adam. I would like to see them back their claim up with some real good engineering tests.
