Just some points:
1.Nokia has said they will be introducing many more smart phones in the U.S. In 2012. I think we each will find our "right" phone in the mix.
2.You can buy a N9 in the U.S. At expansysusa. I bought a black N9,two Nokia play 360 and the Nokia wireless music receiver. I didn't buy the new monster headsets but they look great or the Luna . I love my perfect phone for me,the n9 and perfect portable speakers, the play 360.
3.Yes there are owners of Nokia smart phones in the U.S. There are ever fan clubs of the products. I also own the E7 and it's a great phone. Symbian now seems like Android and the n9 may in short time be able to downloads some android apps.

And this is why using WP7 is a horrible idea for marketing Nokia in the US. Its been proven over the years that the overwhelming majority of US smartphone consumers do NOT want a phone running any form of mobile Windows platform. Using a platform like MeeGo, and promoting the fact that it's an open source platform in a similar vein to Firefox and Android, would be a much more innovative, crowd drawing technique than going for a dying, unused Windows platform.

" That’s definitely not the case in North America, and it would have been great if Nokia could have given us at least a hint that it was not only looking to compete on hardware capabilities but on aggressive pricing."

Microsoft and Nokia have near zero market share in the US, need to get to 30+% to have a viable ecosystem, and have tens of billions in liquid funds. You do the math. At least some models will be given away for next to nothing at the US launch.

If they were sticking with Symbian and developing it to absolutely incredible standards of UI quality and smoothness I'd be right there with ya. But the fact is, they're not. It'll be... nice. And without that development and without the $ being pumped into it, it won't stand up against the competition in a year's time. Bland tiles they are though. Hopefully the Apollo update will be a step forward from those tiles!

Umm... it's not a dumb iPhone, use the hardware camera button! Watching you fiddle around with the screen controls in that 1st vid, hoping one of the icons was a camera shutter button was agonizing!!
But I agree with your US rant. I woke up early here in NYC to catch Elop's speech. I knew the 800 and 710 were coming thanks to the leaks, so yawn, yawn, come on get to the good stuff.....oh it's over. With a mere 'mention' of a portfolio of devices coming to the US. Back to old Nokia-speak: you can expect nothing for months and months, and when you do it'll be outdated and yet again our competitors will have surpassed us in hardware and ultimately, sales. PLEASE NOKIA! Prove me wrong! The US needs a change from this ocean of plastic Android crappola and iPhone mania!!
