If you’ve got a Nokia N95 and you want another reason to look smug in front of iPhone owners (I’m not advocating inter-device rivalry, I just know what you kids are like) then head over to the Nokia Software Updater and grab the Assisted-GPS upgrade. A-GPS uses service-provider data on your location to reduce sat-nav time-to-first-fix (TTFF) delays; that’s the long pause before the handset figures out where you are, which some users have found can stretch to a couple of minutes on the N95.
Nokia is planning to use A-GPS on all future GPS-enabled handsets, and it’s already in the 6110 Navigator. Of course, as a carrier-based service it all depends on what your operator supplies, although Nokia suggest that since it’s open to third-parties it doesn’t necessarily need to be the operator you’re connected with.
The N95 A-GPS upgrade is free and available now.

Since may 2007 I’m the proud owner of a Nokia N95.
Yes I said proud ’cause since day one I had this good feeling of purchasing a versatile device that takes me on a voyage of discovery and now three months later it still fulfills my curiosity.
