Well, when they get this one out on more mainstream units it will be
time to start a new and probably more important camera feature race,
that of user controllable focus and exposure control. Then, when they
have that down, they can start on the last and greatest holy grail of
photography, exposure latitude. I can’t wait!

Even serious photographers can’t carry a “real” camera around their neck 24/7. “I was fine with my 3.2 MP camera on my blackberry”, that’s ROFL.

Rofl, exactly, my “phones” camera. Anyone who is serious about photography gets a real camera. Anyone who isn’t is probably fine with the 8MP cameras on most phones. I was fine with my 3.2 MP camera on my blackberry. Shoot, the 5MP camera on my Galaxy Nexus has taken some beautiful pictures.

Valid point about the lense. Also cramming so many pixels into a relatively small sensor might not be good at high ISO. But still…..

Just like regular digicams and SLRs, it’ll all come down to noise levels at high ISO at the end of the day.

This thing has a 1/1.2″ sensor! almost Nikon 1 sensor size. Coupled with a f2.4 aperture, it could actually be used for reasonable low light shots. I can’t wait to see the low light captures, I hope the lense is as good as they claimed. This is a true game changer, it could literally kill the compacts. Once Sony catches up, this type of capability will be in all smart phones within a year or two.
