wow great review. i love my new n900. easy to use, processor is faster, camera and recorder are wasy crisper. favorite unlocked world phones so far. the gps helps me get around for my business and the email helps me keep in touch with family and clients. My wife loves hers for the facebook and nokia apps keep her and the kids busy when there’s chill time. way better than our old unlocked blackberry phones. my kid likes hers for the slide out keyboard and the games are great for her, girl is never off her phone! very excited to see what else nokia comes out with this year. got our last couple unlocked cell phones at gsmallover.com and we love them. 2 thumbs up

i can only answer ur second question – iPhone’s battery gives you 8 hours of talktime while the N900 delivers 9 hours. both are nothing to write home about, and that’s mainly because their software is pretty heavy

1. Any chance this would be carried by T-Mobile with a subsidized price?
2. iPhone (lately really not good, with 3.0+ OS) battery vs N900 battery any thoughts?
3. Work on T-Mobile USA 3G networks?
4. Could be used as a “GPS”? Currently use my iPhone (2G) as a guidance device, works decently enough.

As one of the 300 from the recent Maemo summit, i have to say that actually the instruction manual is rather useful. Even if the copy’s i have are in dutch and french (I think)
Mainly this is as Maemo 5 is a brand new UI.

It explains lots of useful things like how *exactly* to get the battery cover off (which is *VERY* stiff!). I found out by asking one of the other attendee’s who had also asked someone else.

It was only when i got home and actually *looked* at the manual, i found all the useful stuff that was in there!

Thanks Lynoure, you’re right about the big switch – I assumed it was to open the battery cover as it feels very “mechanical”, like it’s pushing aside a latch. Quite a tactile way to turn the display on!

I’m yet to pull out the stylus to use the N900, so the UI is holding up pretty well.

You can use your fingers, the GUI is actually designed to be quite fingerfriendly.

BTW, the switch is not for the battery case lid… You can lock/unlock the screen with that switch, and it plays no part in the operation of prying the lid open. :)

The N900 has a resistive touch-display – that doesn’t mean you can’t primarily use your fingers only to interact with the device.

hey does the touch screen works as it works on iphone with your finger or is it just like any other touch screen phones you have to use your nail or the stylus?
