Nokia has really pissed me off and lost their chance for my money when they announced it would be an AT&Tits exclusive. I would never, ever sign with a carrier that tells me how much data I can and can’t use. Do they not realize how many sales they are losing with this exclusivity deal?? They definitely lost mine, and I’m not the only one. The Ativ S is looking like the most attractive device to me at the moment.

No, NFC isn’t stupid. It’s just not widely used yet but that’s slowly changing and they’re hardly the only ones pushing the technology. Practically every company is either pushing NFC or looking at competing alternatives.

Whether you use it personally is also irrelevant. There’s lots of things put into devices that not everyone uses, but it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be put in there for those who do use it!

While it takes company months to get Android products out too! Most companies for one thing don’t release their products with just the default Android from Google. Second, hardware fragmentation often means they have to optimize for their device! Third, designing, building, testing, and redesigning all take time before a product can reach the market.

Besides, things like the battery take up more space and those aren’t going to change anytime soon.

NFC is stupid and is used for a few seconds a week. The rest of the time I’d have to carry around that piece of junk with me.
If they decided to compromise they’ve picked the wrong “technology”…… or wrong operating system…. with Androids it would be on the market by tomorrow.

It’s correct though, things like NFC take up space and require a minimum with existing technology.

It’s one of the reasons they are thinking that the iPhone 5 may not get NFC because it’s looking to be too thin to accommodate it. Apple may still surprise everyone but that along with things like good battery size to give the long run times are the type of things that are still keeping smart phones from getting much thinner.

That is the smartest thing I’ve read on Slashgear in a while…Hell I’d even agree with you, and I hate windows 8 just from the desktop / tablet OS.

Doesn’t matter though because some people think that windows 8 is the next coming of Christ. They must have stock.

Why does the article state that all the phones have a gloss finish yet the black clearly does not? The photos I’ve seen of the 920 all show a gloss finish except for black…which is a good thing.

I am deciding between a touch BB10 or this Nokia 920. Where is the BB10 option on the poll. At this point it looks like BB10 and WP8 are the only useful options for an upgrade to a new phone. What advancements are you getting from ios or android (baby ios) not much besides a bigger screen. ios looks so outdated compared to everything else that is coming out. And android is a different interface per phone manufacturer. My wifes phone and mine both android and same OS version are just different. My wife hated Android so much she went back to her old LG dare. I am counting down the days to when BB10 is out in January to decide between that and the Nokia 920.

Smart phone is a gadget that’s hard to switch to different brand, different OS because most everyone has 1 phone number. Users are already familiar with the user interface to navigate their way. Moreover, smart phones come with 2-year contract. I’d get a Windows phone only if they offer it free with no contract so I can try it out for a few months.
