^It’s not that impressive at all really, aside from design/aesthetics….
The real innovation from WP if it ever comes, will come with the 1st Lumia’s running WP8x.
But Android/iOS aren’t standing still, they’ll need to be delivering in a massive way by then.

Nokia user since the bag phone….wouldn’t use anything else. The brand has been VERY reliable for me. Don’t get caught in the apple craze….check out the Nokia for yourself..you may be very surprised, and I live in a house where everyone has an iPhone (4) but those 4 people are amazed at my 900. NO you can’t have it…get your own is my response. Lol!

Right now i am on the flipside of both, i mean i love the iphone and its great and thats where my music is and apps, but then again the Lumia 900 looks cool and seems like microsoft did some awesome updates to this windows phone compare to others. still not sure what phone to get. any one want to help?

A phone’s useless for serious word processing, a tablet, phablet, or other form-factors are better suited.
For light word processing sure, but beyond that it’s not practical…

If there is one reason to purchase a Windows phone, it will be because of the new and fresh user experience. Of course, with bundled mobile office and one note, its a very useful phone for people like me who make changes to their docs in the cloud. But wait, in the sheet, you say Nokia Lumia 900 uses iCloud for cloud sync. That’s wrong, right?

One of the biggest problems with the ipone 4 for $100 is the 8 gb of memory. 16 gb is the bear minimum especially since the new hd apps are getting really large. 16 gb is ok for people who don’t load songs and videos on their phones. With video, pictures, music and apps, 8 gb will fill up real fast. LTE shopuld also be a big consideration. The higher res screens are nice, but the resolution on the Nokia is the same as most phones had a little over a year ago and no one really complained. With higher res it’s definitely easier to read text, but it’s not like it’s difficult with the larger size but lower res screen.

Sorry but there’s no way the camera’s better, sure “point & shoot” (i.e. stock config) may be…
But anyone that knows the slightest about tweaking their phone’s camera to suit each situation, will get better results with the N9/800/900.
The former being slightly better than the latter two…..
iP4S however is another matter entirely, it’s definitely better than the N9/800/900 “overall”.

I know my words might sound a little dumb but can’t stop to share. As far as i can understand, Apple sells great user experience, and nokia+microsoft sell hardware and software. This is the core difference. Apple has whole division of developer militia, a solid focused mobile os platform to mobilize that army. While NM build their own developer army Apple will just mobilize their developers to get their strategic objectives. And its not clear that if Microsoft has that solid platform to help their developers to build great applications for great experience. but this competition is good, it will push the iOs to the next level and pull the young platforms to a strong position. Users will enjoy the fruit.

Both are quite nice, however i would probably go for the Lumia 900. I think Nokia and Microsoft are definately onto something here and they are really trying hard to provide more great services. I know there are some really cool things coming from Nokia such as the Mix radio, nokia reading and of course their maps and drive apps too. Also i like the idea of having a monthly subscription to (i think it’s called) zune and being able download as many songs as i like, instead of paying for individual songs… Plus windows phone 8 sounds like it is going to bring a good experience too. Anyway, I think there are some really nice and creative services coming, so i think long term, the Lumia 900 looks like a good choice.

I am on sprint, before this I was on AT&T and I would take sprint any day over AT&T. Maybe coverage and such isn’t as good, but up and down the California coast I get more consistent data speeds on sprint. Sprint is also the only network still offering unlimited data. Instead of AT&T which used to at 25 bucks, now only offering 2gigs for 30. The usual with AT&T, pay more, get less. Customer Service isn’t just not good, its flat out abysmal, the worst in the entire industry. They are a joke. For people who like to pay to much, and get to little. As to the OP, man I hope this phone makes it to Sprint, however they are being kinda bitchy about WP. They say its not growing as much as they’d like. (I am assuming someone in their marketing department forgot to tell them if they get good WP devices people will want it more. And I own the Arrive.)

Regardless of all that, I love WP. I have had the best Android, and Apple have to offer. The Motorola Photon 4G (Talk all you want, when it was released easily the best and still comparable to anything android has) and the iPhone 4S. That was my first (and last) iPhone. It is to boring and not nearly capable enough. Though credit where credit is due, the camera and the display were awesome! However I have had a WP on AT&T and on Sprint. I’m back to WP after the iPhone 4S, the HTC Arrive. Not the best of the line up and I still prefer it to the iPhone any day. It is a joy to use. Faster then the iPhone at actual phone things. Posting to social networks, taking pictures, texting. Those are the primary things we use our phones for. This is the best at it. (get mad Apple fan boys, sorry your company isn’t that good)

In reality iOS’ apps actually crash more then Android. It is fact. Look it up. Windows Phones Apps crash less, by a lot.

Windows Phone also finds that medium between software and software. Apple makes just ONE device for their OS so that hardware is all the same for the software. Google allows anyone to put Android on anything, so sometimes there is an app that your buddies have that you cant because your phone cant run it. Microsoft wants people to use WP but makes them stick to a set of rules for the OS. certain processor speeds, the hardware HAS to have a dedicated camera button (one of my personal favorite features) so anyone can make it, and it can run anything that is offered. It is the perfect solution.

I am loving the Windows Phone OS. If you don’t, you most likely haven’t tried it, or didn’t actually want to give it an opportunity cause you are a fan boy. It is truly the only different OS. In terms of functionality and aesthetics. Go give it a shot. On XBL? Some of the games give you gamerscore! Lots of reason to like WP not many to dislike it.

Congratulations all US phone users. Now U have the possibility to get a phone in Cyan who is screaming… I am a Nokia Lumia 900 and I am proud! And you will love it! It is the most fantastic phone in the market at the moment, and for sure Nokia will push even better phones with WP in the future as well. I myself have Lumia 800 and waiting for the 900 to get to Europe as well :-) Happy eastern

the article is a comparison between an iphone 4 and a lumia, i misunderstood your comment and for that i apologize. however, walt mossberg’s review points out some disappointments in the battery life, and I would not consider him it to be an apple “fanboyish” review. I also got the 250k apps in two years from the last two years, during which the android market, windows marketplace, and more existed. regardless, the lumia is still a great phone and all of the nokia windows phones look fantastic. I hope they do well. But to say that the WP7 ecosystem is anywhere close to android or apple is just foolish

Again….clearly look at my comment .I asked why still 3g in ‘IPHONE 4S’ which was released recently.Apple will add LTE when they are allowed to add i to LTE to call it as iLTE iPhone and then apple says we invented something better than LTE. Don’t just pass comments by reading apple fanboyish reviews on Lumia .Experience it.The battery is giving 1 day 2 hrs with moderate use of LTE on Lumia 900.Its on par with Iphone 4S.Apple has 250 k apps in 2 yrs when there was no other ecosystem.But WP got 85k apps in two years with existence huge Apple and Android ecosystem.

it’s still 3g because it came out two years ago, and 4g sucks battery life. it would be nice to add, and probably will be in the next iphone, but apple didn’t want to sacrifice battery life and size. reviews of the lumia state that the battery life is below expectations, especially when using 4g. as for apps, the app store has added around around 250k apps in the same time wp7 has added 80k. i really hope wp7 succeeds and I think the lumia is a beautiful phone, but right now apple has a much better ecosystem, period.

IOS on iPhone4 feels extremely slow compared to even the Samsung Focus with WP7 much less a brand new and better device.

I feel that the built in’s should have been mentioned a bit more in the article. One thing many of us use our smartphones as navigation for one and with the lumia you have Bing Maps and Nokia Drive to choose from. While iOS still has google maps (google isn’t going to give its biggest competitor software as good as it’s own). So that is a huge plus in the side of WP7, obviously you can buy a navigation app but that is irrelavent at this point.

Also the social integration was breezed over but is extremely nice for those who do use Twitter/FB/Linked In

WP7 also has Xbox live and MS Office built in which are both great usable features. WP7 Tellme is far superior to whatever Apple’s voice system is pre-siri

In Short WP7 out of box is better for:

- Navigation
- Social integration
- Word/office documents
- Xbox live gaming
- Speak commands

iOS is better in:

- …. i had something. Well I forget but downloading apps i suppose.

I upgraded from iOS and have only run into a couple of apps that i wanted that WP7 didn’t have. And I have since found an alternative for ALL of them.

Examples early on: Mint, Mapmyride, Pandora, LoseIt (if you can’t live without these then go iOS or Android maybe)

pageonce, runtastic, slackr(there are 3rd party pandora apps too but i like slacker better), myfitnesspal

You think sprint is a real network? Lol!! Sprints network is the worst around. AT&T may get slammed for having bad customer service (I’ve never experienced it, nor have my friends) but when it comes to their network their no joke. In Florida, my data speeds blow away basically everything else.

this is perhaps one of the most ignorant comments I’ve ever seen. iOS 5 is 6 months old, WP Mango is 7 months. The iphone 4 has a much higher screen resolution, but is less usable in the sun, while the lumia has a faster processor, bigger screen, and LTE. this is to be expected from a brand new phone compared to one that is almost two years old, especially considering AT&T is subsidizing the lumia an extra $100. as far as apps go, 600,000 compared to 85,000 is a monumental difference, though I hope WP7 succeeds.

any comparison of the two is rather pointless, they’re completely different phones released at completely different times, though passing off rambling comments as fact just makes you look like an ignorant fool.

Iphone iOS is 5 years old and Windows phone just 2 years old.As far as apps concerned.85,000 pretty good number for WP in just 2 years.LTE,Design and price point are killer features.Stop comparing to all the time to a Iphone as if it was mother of all features in a smartphone.Design of Nokia 900 kills Iphone.The screen Clear black display works great in sunlight compared to Iphone.Free life time turn by turn navigation kills the iphone.LTE and 4.3 inch are bonus.Only resolution is low because of WP limitation.

It seems like many tech reviewers put too much emphasis on the availability of apps without mentioned a few things:
+ iphone 4 (not iphone 4s) can’t run all the iphone apps (the keyword here is ALL). Some apps lag real bad; some crashed immediately upon launch. It is very obvious if you view the comments sections of some apps in Apple Store.
+ Many people excited about the Nokia apps, but not one review even mention them
+ How well Windows phone integrated with other Microsoft services in daily usages. For example, given the 16G storage space of the Lumia 900, how easy is it for users to use Windows Skydrive to extend their storage space?

I’ve been using my iphone 4 for the last 2 years and I must admit that I’ve had quite a few moments of frustration due to apps lag/crashed. These are not even new apps. Some old apps that got updated to support newer features of iOS 5 become unstable.

I want one but I need it on Sprint’s network. The only issue with this and could be the demise is that it is only on AT&T. Give it to us on a real network.
