Microsoft has steered the car straight into a wall, this message from Nokia is "Wake up - we (as well as other WP7 OEMs) want to make money - today!"

MS could (key word) be selling WP7 phones AND tablets, and in doing so, competing with Android and iOS.

Instead, they chose to put out a half-baked WP7 (is it compatible with dual-core hardware YET? In other news, the first quad-core Android phones have entered manufacturing... At least they added copy/paste, right?). Instead, they decided to ignore 10+ years of "Windows-on-a-tablet" failures, and announce their tablet strategy would be (drum roll...) exclusively "Windows-on-a-tablet". At least when Windows 8 is launched, which isn't today. And in fact, following MS tradition (so deeply established, most corporate upgrade policies reflect it), Windows 8 itself will be half-baked, whenever Windows 9 is released they may have an OS that resolves at least most of the 1st-gen public concerns. Which will not occur until at least 2014... by then, not only will Android and iOS have advanced, pushing the currently accepted paradigm (that of the publicly-understood concept of a mobile-OS on mobile devices - phone AND tablet), but Windows 8 will have negative press that doesn't lead to either "Windows-on-a-tablet" or Windows 9 acceptance.

I think Nokia is sending a message here:
"Microsoft, what are you doing? We didn't know you were going to release WP7 and then abandon ship! We saw hope in WP7 - don't steal it's UI and stretch it like a Halloween costume over Windows! Get behind WP7 - like WE did! We want to use it to sell phones, and tablets... today! We don't want you confusing the public, creating the impression that it's a dead-end! We want to help you grow it, to compete with Android and iOS! We thought we were a player in this game! We made a decision, and put our company on the line - why are you throwing the baby out with the bathwater?"

Nokia has a right to be resentful. At least it shows they are smart.

I hope they DO launch a WP7 tablet - and teach MS how ludicrous their "We don't care about selling things until 2014, and we don't care how we drag our image through the mud in the meantime - we'll supplant that with hype until then!" Disgusting.

Come on Nokia, twist their arm...
Make me excited about WP7 again, rather than disappointed as I've grown.

The Nokia brand has been totally destroyed by Elop.
Their Lumia phone range is now overshadowed by the Microsoft/Windows brand, or killed off by the"burning platform" message in the case of Symbian.
There is no brand to be built on a tablet running someone else' operating system.
Unfortunately Jorma Ollila is now a redundant figurehead with no influence over the strategic direction of Nokia.
This FT article will only drive investors away.
