I doubt he did anything but borrow it. The aerospace industry has been on the forefront of actual implemented heads-up displays for quite some time now. The author of this puff-piece might want to actually do a bit of research next time...

I've always liked Nokia, until they put such an ignoramus in charge. The one thing though I don't agree with is seeing them somehow as more innovative than Google is with Glass. After all their supposed pre-existing version of heads up device wasn't the first conceptualization of the idea either!

The Reality is that Google is the first to actually have a full working model being delivered into customer's hands. Concepts and projects out to be first only and not end up ever being on the market for sale are a dime a dozen. Google isn't just talking about what they did back in '09, it's about going further than just a proof of concept stage, that Nokia has rarely done themselves. Because their money maker has always been in durable industrial hardware design.

Take screens for instance..... they have no parts production of their own for screens. Therefore they rely on out sourcing not unlike Apple. Most of the parts they use (including in Amoled screens) comes from Samsung and Billions of Dollars they spend on R&D and manufacturing know how and technology. Which reached well over $43 Billion Globally last year alone in just CAPEX spending. So like Apple (totally out sourced) they depend on companies like SAMSUNG, LG, SHARP, Foxconn and many other competitors to furnish their parts and the labor to put their products together.

When they tossed aside all the work on MeeGo to go to solely with Microsoft, that's when they signed their own death warrant. Windows Mobile (WP8) is still proprietary and it's NOT Nokia that has control over it. Android Linux now has the NSA designed SE Kernel in Jelly Bean. When the NSA approached Apple and other OS software companies on writing a Secure Kernel for their own use, Apple turned them down for access to source code. So the NSA did what they did with Desktop Linux over both Windows and Mac OS X. Went to the Open Source community to work on Linux and so we now have 'hardened OS kernels' for both Linux on Desktops and now Mobiles!

So now the majority of purchases our own government makes in mobile devices for the last year have been Android devices. Preferably Samsung Galaxy and Motorola Atrix devices for Nett Warrior Program. No doubt with an Android App Store in Beta serving top governments and countries over the world, that's where most of the eventual Millions of Devices will be bought from..... not NOKIA, with proprietary insecure Windows based OS on it, that they can't modify and control themselves!

And here's the single greatest reason to be so excited about Google Glass, knowing that Android already has Government Contracts for Mapping and their other services all wrapped up. Not only that..... but they are already working on a Glass version for military use, while all Nokia, Apple and others have done is tossed on concepts and rumors of possible devices. When all we have to do is read Science Fiction books to get all that we want! .......because until they actually spend the money of their own on bringing these concepts and hyperbolic delusions of Grandeur Alive for Consumers, it's all just so much vaporware!!! ;-p ......Google Glass Now with Knowledge Base Connection is the FUTURE NOW!

"There's room again for devices that do a few things really well"... Oh really, Nokia?

I used to carry a separate camera, PDA, phone and watch back in the day - it sucked. Screw that, add a Geiger counter in my smartphone and let it hook up wirelessly to a pair of Lumus glasses or worst case scenario, Google Glass, and I'm set. No need to fill my pockets with bullshit...

No, Nokia didn't read the letter I sent them in 2000, in which I described a touchscreen phone with a virtual keyboard. I'm not kidding.

But Marko Ahtisaari is the son of a president and a Nobel peace prize laureate Martti Ahtisaari! Actually the peace prize laureate is not that special, for as a EU citizen, I have that title as well...
