SwipeUX has it’s flaws, it’s far from perfect, I expect them to take some of the best bits + add their own twists.

Class leading hw in every respect won’t happen, there may be one or two unique hw aspects, but that will be it for their 1st device.
It “may” be able to best most of the top-end WP8 phones, possibly even the iPhone 5, but not the top-end Androids.
It’s unlikely it’ll best any of the top-end phones on those platforms, but hopefully it’ll have 1-2 hw aspects that match/surpass them.

What will differentiate it, will be a truly unique software experience, one which is far more pliable/flexible than anything else…
I’m also hoping it’s absolutely rock-solid stable, I dont care if doesn’t have tonnes of features, stability/performance is paramount.
They can gradually build on the feature-set, maintaining a reliable user experience is far more important than launching with a gazillion features.

I definitely expect them to be as close as possible to the SwipeUX from Harmattan. I can’t see how they expect to succeed otherwise. Comparisons are awaiting eagerly. Since Swipe has been praised everywhere, they better stick with those principles (including curved glass) or they’re bound to be beaten by the press.

As one who was disappointed when Nokia walk away from MeeGo…any reincarnation of the OS is very welcomed. I will be following the progress of this group and hope they can really bring MeeGO to life on some top of the line devices with top notch specs. At this point as spoiled as we all are with top specs..the OS must be matched by a high caliber device with killer specs…4.5″ or more HD screens, 1.5 MHz dual or quad core chipsets, 1 or 2GB RAM, 8+Mpx rear cams w/ abt 2Mpx front, ample internal storage 16/32GB, micro SD card expansion 32/64GB, a bigger replaceable battery 2100+ mAh, 3G/HSPA+/LTE support etc. They will have to go big if they intend to lure or peel off ppl who are already entrenched in Android, iOS, Windows. Lets wait and see…probably Nokia might jump back in at some point in the future depending on how successful Windows become or how well Jolla Mobile does.

I’ve read much of their twitter stream, pretty sure at one point they explicitly said they’re devising a unique UX, no plans to license SwipeUX etc.
Of course I’d fully expect it to bear many SwipeUX hallmarks, it only makes sense for several reasons.
Follow the stream and the thread at TMO, articles like this are always behind the main sources, & often the fully story gets garbled along-the-way.

They explained all that “dozens of times” before knowing -or letting us know- Nokia would grant them the use of IP related to MeeGo. Without knowing what that IP is -I insist- the news is irrelevant.

They’ve explained clearly dozens of time why they wont support the N9xx & I dont blame them at all.
I prefer they didn’t in fact, so long as it’s as open as what real MeeGo WAS going to be*, the community will eventually bring their OS to N9xx with ease.

*and all indications are it will be, except for maybe some elements of the UX.

Without specifics, this news is irrelevant. Will they get full Harmattan? Will they get the Swipe UI? What aren’t they getting if anything? Will they be able to properly support the N9 if they so wish (although they’ve stated they can’t/won’t because that’s a Nokia phone)?

Do some journalism, please.

Itviikko stated that nokia has generally shared its patents among those who left the company to pursue new businesses. Also elsewhere it has been confirmed that jolla has a sizeable IPR portfolio already.

This is incorrect and inaccurate. The original interview or article at IT Viikko did not state that Jolla Mobile received mobile patents from Nokia.
