SUCH a piece of Shit !! Don't buy it ! The other users who have given good reviews mustn't have had it for longer than 6 months! Mine was going well for a while there apart from connecting to the internet when I didn't want it to, freezing and not receiving text msgs (which was bad enough). It now for the second time is showing no reception at all.. anywhere! And won't accept phone calls or msgs. I've done everything I can do to try and fix it, (don't even bother with customer service she told me to hold the hash button down for a few seconds. Really?!) At least I guess that's what she said.. I couldn't really understand her with the thick accent. It cost me $120 to fix the first time! I'm getting an Iphone, something reliable unlike this rip off Nokia waste of money.

Reading about a phone I have only acquired a month ago I am very surprised how much it is hated.
However I also notice that nobody makes any suggestion as to what phone to acquire rather than the N72. When buying the gentleman asked me questions: 1 Do you use your phone for music - No
2 Are you forever on the internet-No. 3 Do you want to use facebook, twitter etc. - No.
I want to be able to use the phone for contacting clients, talking while driving, gps navigation so that I cannot get so lost (it works) taking photos and that is about it.
I was keen on a Blackberry as all my friends (women) have it and then realised the difference between our lives - they all love fb, twt, etc. - so if you want to be able to listen to music and all those other things then please buy a blackberry.

I would be interested to hear which phones you would all change to if you were the person paying for it (directed at those who get their phone from companies) and why.

I have been using E72 for over a year now.... The phone's features are amazing, battery life is good... But the no.of times it resets itself, switches off, sudden loss of connection, pathetic camera and most importantly the deaf ears of nokia are it main problems.. I have visited the nokia care so many times that i became a very good friend of theirs... It's amazing that nokia put lot of effort into the phone only to make it worse with their s/w updates.. now i only hope to get a decent price for this so that i can buy something else(i guess anything except nokia will do).

My company forces me to use this phone... I hate it soo much, I have never held any animosity towards a phone but this, this is a different story, the user interface is so fucking retarded figuring out how get internet on this thing was even worse and that optical device for the center key was a living hell before I figured out how to disable it. I mean they already have keys for everything else but in the center right in the middle of the "arrow" buttons they place a touch as to make one or the other completely useless.

Hey John, what do you mean with flashing? I guess you don't mean simply upgrade the firmware, because that didn't help the "image processing" issue. You mean like flash some non-brand firmware on it?

GUys, I bought an E72 back in February of 2011. It's the best phone i have ever had. I tried the iPhone 3GS - slow, cumbersome, and crippled. The E72 has a full suite of applications - I can get a spreadheet in email, and open it up without any drama. It's MS windows support is fabulous - I have a $2 bluetooth device, that automaticall connects, syncs my calendars, and allows me to manage texting, calls, and contacts from a single interface. I think that you have to know what you are getting into BEFORE you buy this phone. For business use, it can't be beat.. but for a multimedia/gaming platform - get the iPhone.

The only one of those problems listed is the camera takes a while to process the image, but if you reflash the phone, everything speeds the hell up, it now takes less then 5 seconds to process a 5 minute video!

The GPS connects fine for me usually, and if it doesn't I close the app and reload it, and it works just fine!

All that shit about emails, I don't use the built in email clients, I check my email either on a computer, or over the wireless using opera, so it doesn't effect me!

I had really low ram, until i reflashed my phone...

If you don't like the games, install new ones, shit loads available on the internet, you can even run flash games on it!!!

Hi, I am pretty much satisfied with E72 for business use.

But I have a problem with flash player: in fact there is no proper flash player. I cannot play a lot of interesting videos. I cannot play interesting players like for example myspace embedded players. It plays Youtube videos, but on a mobile version of Youtube which does not contain a lot of videos otherwise available on the "normal" site. Anyone knows some solution to these problems? (Apart from buying a Windows Mobile or Android phone instead :-))

has your experience with the e72 improved? I just got one a few days ago, with no prev experience with a smartphone. It doesnt seem too smart, and I have not even been able to set up my emails-- so I guess I am not too smart either. Buying another is not an option now that I have this, any suggestions?

got this E72 last November 3, 2010.

I read some comments about this device (specially the cons) and even i read most of its issues, it did not stop me from getting it. My first E-series device and its awesome!.

I Like:
-QWERTY keyboard
-battery
-Slim Design
-Optical trackpad (somewhat limiting) + Navigation Buttons
-Web Browser (surprise! surprise! its fast!!!)
-lot of apps....
-hotswap microSD up to 16GB (tried 32GB and its fine)
-both charge via travel charger port and microUSB port (depends on data cable)

I Dont Like:
-128mb RAM (E5 has 256mb but E72 attracted me more about features)
-Loud Speaker (or should i say "Silent Speaker?")
-back cover (smudges smudges and smudges like a capacitive touch screen)
-back cover (i hear a little click on the latch so i know its firm and in place but still has moving effects, like its not locked tight)
-back cover (i think I agree with some that the back cover might be dis-attached overtime)
-3 key combo on the right (dont really use the middle one between volume rocker)
-the one-touch keys are limited, cant change shortcuts to some of installed apps. (please someone tell me how to solve this)
-the "white only" print on the buttons on keyboard.

as a whole, enjoying it. i am a Symbian Fan so even there are more enhanced and awesome OS in the market, I still have symbian, (yeah the s60 OS 9.x 5th SUCKS!!!)

The best part about the Nokia E72 is its full QWERTY keyboard. The buttons are not that wide but they give nice tactile feedback and have a nice domed design. This makes it easy to type. The keyboard also has shortcuts for features and symbols. On the phone’s left, there is a memory card slot and microUSB port. On the right, you have the voice command key and volume rocker. The power jack is located on the bottom.

Lots of bad press in the comments. I absolutely disagree with them.
I have used this phone for the last 10 months, and i absolutely love it.
True, it is not als cool as a iPhone, android or webOS, but in return i get very nice battery time.
The camera is very good. I love the keyboard and the overall build.
Exchange sync was easy to setup and just works. Java apps are 100% integrated. The browser is quite good and supports flash. (but i must ad,it that I
i use opera, because i like it's rss reader and is faster because of their proxy service.)
This is a phone that gets the job done with no nonsense.

While reading the comments here, I stopped thinking I was just cursed with that one crappy unit. Nope, it's just not a good device - that is, the software just sucks balls.

I confirm ALL the above issues (however, one could by a USB extention cord to overcome the shortness of the link cable)

Let me give you guys 1 positive point about the phone: It IS quite sturdy - I have thrown it away many out of frustration many times, and it still works "fine".

Nokia should provide a software update ASAP to actually USE this phones hardware - because I think there's nothing wrong with it's hardware. It's like running in plain VGA mode on a GeForce card.

You guys also hate the fact that the sound when taking a picture can NOT be disabled ? How can one take sneaky pictures if the phone goes all jingle on you ? (even in silent mode!!)

I agree with all in this forum who are against E72. I bought this useless phone a week back and I realized made such big mistake. This is waste of money, energy. I am sure if very soon I will not be able to sell it, I will thru it in some drain.

All points highlighted above along with 18 points are very valid. You don't know when it will hang.

1. I tried installing a game (300kb) for my kids with no other application running. It hanged.
2. I tried opening a 300kb PDF file. It hanged.
3. Not at all user friendly interface.
4. This OS is key problem I think, it is more like initial version was developed and after that not properly managed addon/enhancements to OS.

I thought, Nokia will be better considering it's world famous name; but I was absolutely wrong.

FRIENDS, please do not waste your money buying this instrument. Another point would like to highlight that NOKIA seems very confident with its OS which it does not want to upgrade to stable version. It is more like "Microsoft Windows" which has got so many versions but most of are unstable and does not cover bugs from previous versions. I am so much frustrated with this instrument and want to write lot of lot. But cutting it in short, I WOULD NEVER EVER SUGGEST NOKIA TO ANYONE.

Perhaps the mr mdvrdmn of July 16 does not have the latest software update. The internetbrowser works fast in my unit.

I Like my E72 very much. Checking my emails constantly, listen to the internet radio, perfect agenda, perfect battery, quick camera, and very good sound when calling: The caller to whom I speak with when having a call is perfect to hear, probably due to the second microphone.
GPS and routing works perfect. Reception of the GPS is better than my Garmin CX60! (seems strange but is true Garmin).
Only one setback. Now and then the phone hangs when starting routing with GPS. Besides this the phone never hangs by the way.

Hi, I am using E series for last two years. Earlier I had E51 and E61. And now I purchased E72. But this is a real wastage of money.

GPS (only factor which compelled me to buy this phone) signal

is Very poor and most of the time one can not use this. If you are travelling in a car you will have to come out of the car wait for some time, (so that your phone can have a clear view of sky :)... ) . My E72 often hangs up. (at least thrice a day) when I search a contact and call him, and after calling if i search another contact it hangs up and i have to restart my mobile.
Camera is very powerful(5 mp), but you cant use it due to slow processing. Video capture is almost impossible.
No new SW update is available online. The nearest Nokia Cars is at least 150 KM from my place, and is not possible to go just for this. It would be better Nokia paste the link to download the latest device software (rather than older version) on their website. So, that one one can download and update his/her mobile. This is a very easy task rather than travelling 150 KM, waste your two days to get your phone SW updated.I think one should not buy this mobile.

I always recommended a NOKIA to all of my friends and relatives. But now ......... I dont think I can recommend the same.

Thanks

Hi, I am using E series for last two years. Earlier I had E51 and E61. And now I purchased E72. But this is a real wastage of money.

GPS (only factor which compelled me to buy this phone) signal

is Very poor and most of the time one can not use this. If you are travelling in a car you will have to come out of the car wait for some time, (so that your phone can have a clear view of sky :)… ) .

Thanks

One of my friend in this forum expressed the following frightening facts. Is it really true. I was about to buy this model. Pl help me, if any body knows this correctly.
Rajaram

1.Camera takes 4-5 seconds to open and after you click a picture, the ‘processing’ message remains for as much as 6-7 seconds on the screen. On my E71 it took less than a second.
2.While checking with Phonetinfo, and Phoneinfo, the processor speed is shown as 192 Mhz, though some claim that a newer version of Phonetinfo will show 600 Mhz.
3. The Email software from NOKIA is regressive. The IMAP folders are not as easy to reach as in E71 and they do not display the number of unread messages in brackets, meaning you have to open all folders to be able to know if there are any unread messages.
4. There is a lot of animation / transition time in the email program. I would ask NOKIA to do away with the transitions and make it snappy. I like snappy.
5. The back cover on E71 was solid but on E72 it keeps coming loose. There is only one button which is easy to press even while lying on the table. Many a times I have lifted my phone from the table and the back cover is falling off.
6. The menu has been redesigned to make you go several levels. On E71 it was menu>setting> whereas on E72 it is menu>control panel> settings making you click more buttons. In order to go to maps you need to go to menu>app>gps rather than menu>gps on E71. I know one can rearrange the icons but this is regressive development from Nokia.
7. The sync cable is like 6 inches long. On the E71 I could lift the phone from the table and answer a call while it was connected to my laptop, but in E72, I have to disconnect the cable or bend awkwardly to take a call. Why a 6 inch cable, down from a meter long cable on E71.
8. On the E71 camera, you could go to options>gallery, but on the E72, the gallery option is missing making you scroll through the main menu to go to the gallery.
9. During a call, the optical key stops functioning. If you are scrolling through a number or the menu while on a call, the optical key will not work. It also does not work in the Camera menu tool bar once the picture is taken. It works before the picture is taken.
10. I have not had once incident when the voice recognition could make out who I was trying to call. It always gets the wrong name.
11. The plastic covers for the Micro USB and the MicroSD card fall off. They have to be very carefully pulled out or else you can lose them.
12. Another issue is that unlike E71 messaging, there is no option to sync the ‘read’ message status. It automatically does. Meaning, if I have read a message on the phone, it will show as read on my Gmail on my PC, or deleted for that matter.
13. There is no option to turn on HTML email messages universally. One has to do it for every mail individually.
14. While playing music, if I keep the phone in my pocket, the optical key is inadvertently sensing the insides of my pocket and skips me from song to song. I have to go to main screen and manually lock the keypad to be able to use the music player with the phone in mu pocket. Other option is to keep holding the phone while I am on the tread mill or cycling. :(
15. The RAM shows only about 25 to 30 MB free with all apps closed using Taskman for the purpose. On E71 it used to be 60 MB or more. I have many a times got a ‘memory full’ error message on my E72. I never ever got this message on the E71 ever.
16. I have sometimes got the ‘maximum number of connections in use, close a connection?’ when I have only one opera mini screen open. Bug ??
17. The Internet Radio app has been removed.
18. There are only redundant games like solitaire and block cascade.

Apart from these the positives are a larger C drive (260 up from 120 on E71). The Torch key (long press space bar). The integration of Nokia Email with the Nokia inbuilt messaging app. They have also added the option for snooze time and I can increase or decrease it from the standard 5 minutes on the E71.
Overall, I am still regretting having bought this phone and hope I had kept my E71. This phone is going to be a failure if the firmware updates do not fix the problem. If any other user has a different experience, then please do let us know. Thanks

The E72 software is a cruel joke.

The list of insane inconveniences and downright bugs that I have encountered in the short time I've had this phone is longer than my arm.

A mobile messaging device that needs every internet app individually configured and cant fall back from WiFi to 3G automatically? What a joke!

A phone where you that changes the softkey for speakerphone mid call?!

A phone that reboots if you plug in the charger while on a call!?

The list goes on...

I do agree that buying this phone is buying a bit more pain for no reason whatsoever.

Though the mailbox in my phone shows unread messages in brackets, rest all the problems are pretty irritating.

Another problem which I have been facing is that for absolutely no reason, the phone shoes memory full. all you can do about that is switch off the phone and restart it. happens atleast a couple of times a week.

A major problem is that the space key stops functioning all together. So while you are typing a message or a mail, itsalllikethis. switch off the phone and restart it.

the touch-navigation keys also stop working randomly. solution again is switch off the phone and restart.

on an average I have restarted my phone almost twice everyday.
not a good buy, considering the e71 was so much better in all respects, you have to pay extra for god knows what!!

p.s: what happened to the phones which never ever had these kind of problems. remember the 8210, 8810, 8250, 3310, 3330, 6110, 5110, 6210?? I somehow don't remember any of them ever freezing up or behaving erratically!!
