With WP7 they have nothing to worry about cause WP7 is nothing…

Differentiation? WP7 has VERY tight restrictions, Samsung, HTC and many others playing the WP7 game too. Nokia will have no differentiations at all with WP7

Upgrades? They are doing them now with Symbian, Nokia has always had a decent support with upgrades. And with Android they’d have less work to do compared to say Symbian, which is their OS and they have to worry about it.

WP7 is garbage! If they are adopting something, they should adopt Android, customize it to their own need like Samsung and HTC do and release it.

WTF are you talking about? Android would be the crappiest solution… They will have to worry about OS upgrades, differentiation, etc… Their consumers will lose trust in them… And yes, the can offer the hardware in developing companies… its not that expensive…

Oh QT. Apps like toshl, wellness diary, Ovistore etc made from Qt are leaps ahead of java/symbian based apps. Now the betalabs gave us “nokia bubbles”–and it’s awesome! Qt is indeed the future.

Oww what’s wrong with the N8? I have no problem using it. No memory error or reboot like my precvious Nokias, no lag, more than enough apps available, not flashy UI but still usable and fast enough than WP7 to use etc. It’s just the keyboard and browser that needs major update, other than that it’s perfect enough for me. =)

I won’t mind if they use WP7, but hopefully they’ll focus more on their symbian/meego devices. If they ditch the two, I won’t buy any more phone from them

Nokia does have some of the best hardware, but has been slow in the development of the top line — N900 came 6 months later than it should have, N9 is still not here. Phones like N8 are abominations, feature phones at best — despite the great hardware, the complete lack of balance in features is turning me off big time.

Yes and No. Yes because the hardware requirements mean that they can not offer WP7 to developing countries. No because the locked OS allows for no innovation/differentiation. Unless Ovi Store software can be more easily ported to WP7 than Android, it makes no sense to go with WP7. Android would be a much better all-around solution.

Nokia sold more than twice as much Symbian 3 devices to _customer_ than Microsoft WP7 devices to _reseller_… in the same timeframe. I don’t know why they should jump on this boat.

But who knows…

P.S.: But I am very sure, they will not dump Symbian or MeeGo for WP7.

Strange, I would’ve said it was the other way around: Nokia’s hardware is great, but the software (well, Symbian specifically) falls short in user experience compared to other platforms. Look at something like the E7, technically it’s amazing (the display, the keyboard feel, the construction, the camera, etc); if it ran Android people would be all over it.

Nokia does need ecosystem partners, and already has major pertner with Intel. Adding Microsoft to the ecosystem partnership would actually be good, but not because of WP7. Microsoft are very good at some things, such as “the cloud”, but WP7 is hopeless and would be a disaster for Nokia.

The problem with Nokia is the quality of the hardware or I should say feature rich hardware they were able to produce. It is not the OS. Symbian was great initially but failed to innovate, just like Microsoft did in the mobile space.

If Nokia joins hands with HTC or Moto or LG – that would be a WIN! Nokia is numero uno in developing countries and they have to try really hard to come anywhere close to Apple, Google, HTC in NAM.

If I was an investor, the Meego hesitation would worry me to no end. Meego has been the sexiest and most interesting os for me, but now Nokias un-pompous behaviour makes me feel, that perhaps Meego wasn’t as mighty as they originally planned.

Fortunately we shall see it soon. I have pushed my phone acquisition until I see what Meego is.
