Looking a little bit XBox-retro in its colour scheme, the Nokia Aeon concept cellphone is in fact anything but old-fashioned. Traditional keypad and joystick fall by the wayside and are replaced by what looks to be (in admittedly Photoshop renderings) a gorgeous high-res touchscreen display.

Nokia Aeon

Making it now would require a jump in technology that we just couldn’t manage, but it’s a promising idea for the future. Expect multiple Far-East knockoffs of the design using decidedly mediocre innards.

Cool design concept but all the phone realestate is taken up by the screen so where exactly would the speaker and mic be? Logically they’d be placed on the other side of the phone, I guess. That means you’d have to do an awkward little wrist flip to turn the phone over to make or answer calls. On the plus side, anyone standing next to you would get a nice eye-full of the phone’s gorgeous screen… as well as the name/number of who you’re talking to and the call duration. :)

    Official comment from Nokia representative:

The Aeon is very much a research concept – not a prototype of an
upcoming model. While it is not inconceivable that some of the concepts
of the Aeon could be potentially be incorporated in a future model -
there is no plan for commercialization of this concept.
