total punch in the face! I understand that the next version of Windows will need higher specs but there is NO good reason why the currently platform can only run on outdated hardware.

Its like saying Windows 7 can only run on a single core chip but windows 8 can only run on dual core so throw out your older desktop and buy this new one. Why are they so gun ho on making usre people understand that anything that will run Win 7 wil run Win 8 on the desktop if you throw your phone users to the curb? WE are the ones you need to convince at this point, not your already HUGE loyal destop user base.

Complete step in the wrong direction if you want to win consumer confidence, which in WP7 is almost non-existent at this point.

Just a quick note: The GSM-S2 is giving me about 40-60 hours on a full charge. My Symbian Nokia 5800 was better with 3-4 days! Both deliver great sound, but I find the Samsung a superior user experience.

No OS is perfect – and I do keep an open mind with willingness to change if something better comes along.

Unfortunately Android and iOS dominate so well in the USA that Nokia and Microsoft are having to undercut them or Give hardware away for free to bring in customers. If these customers discover that their hardware wont be upgraded to WP8 I think they will be seriously annoyed; don’t you?

No need for a custom ROM or any hacking to get ICS on the Galaxy S2 (EU version-unlocked). Samsung issued the official Ice Cream update on the 19th of April, I have upgraded my phone and it seems to be fine. I’m still getting used to the changes, so I want a few weeks to test things out – but overall it feels pretty good.

I used Nokia hardware for about 15 years, and would have stuck with them if they had fixed Symbian or gone for MeGo. I also wish Nokia well and hope that the Elop plan works for them, but I still don’t trust Microsoft (specifically Balmer); nor would I feel confident that Mango would give me what I want from a phone.

Unresolved is if WP8 apps will be backwards compatible with WP7.x. It seems unlikely, Leaving Lumia buyers with a truly abandonware phone.

Maybe Windows Phone 8 is just what Microsoft needs to get People to buy their brand of smart phone so many People today are tech freaks they want their smart phone to have latest high tech on it or they feel they have a second class smart phone even though Windows 7.5 mango smart phones run smooth and fast on a Single core CPU and The Metro UI is award winning. Window 8 smart phones will have The high tech nstuff People want in smart phones. People also have to get past the blocky ugly to some look of the metro tile because Folks metro tiles are designed so you read the Letters and Numbers of the Data within the square or rectangular tile. metro tiles may not look pretty folks but you can read Changing data that can be put in them. Iphones and Android smart phones have dead Icons on their screens. Metro tiles will be on the new windows 8 desktop, Laptop and Windows 8 Tablet computers and 2012 server coming out this fall so get used to them.

How is it not competative, It is more secure (IOS and Android have holes you could fly a jet through in there security) faster has no lag and great intergration into social networking as well as other medias to do what a phone is designed to do and that is comunicate. As for the lack of apps thats crazy there is over 80k apps and though that sounds nothing in numbers to ios or android it is more than anyone will ever look at and the quality is genrally higher.
As for ICS upgrade i asume thats from a custom rom that someone has made up requireing you to flash your device etc and how is that any diff fromhacking a windows phone even if god forbifd MS have lied and wp8 is not comming to my device? As for flexable I dont get that at all you can link anything to your somescreen including live tiles for live updated info. Also as your a droid user you will be used to the world of unlocks where with a windows phone you can even add them widgets you all love so much. Look at the smoked by windows phone and tell me that its not more efficiant at getting the info you need bar one guy that custom rommed his device to not lock etc something you would never do in the real world.
So what is it you hate so much about the os cos from where im sat i get as many apps as you, as much customisation, a faster os with faster accses to my information that is more secure with a better music expiriance and a battery that smashes your out the water. And thats without stateing how we all get the updates at the same time as they are released not 8 months down the line via a hack that is a little quirky but hay you can show off to your mates that you got it running woopwoop.

As an Android user, the lack of upgrades is a pain in the bum; but I already have an OS that gives me more freedom and I really like my Samsung hardware. I use a SIM free S2; and could download ICS today, but I will wait until I am sure it wont ruin my good hardware experience before I do so.

Despite feeling that the Nokia WP hardware looked nice; both it and WP7.5 is just not competitive (or sufficiently flexible) yet. Now it seems it was designed that way – as a sacrificial generation, just to get Windows Phone started in the US. Perhaps when customers realise that they have been treated this way they will kick Windows Phone back into the long grass with frustration and anger. Deep sigh! Yet another OS, let down by a brutish and short sighted management.

Do you remember Balmer saying: “Developers, Developers DEVELOPERS!” . . . well, the words I want want to hear from the big ape were (and still are): “Support, Support and more blasted SUPPORT!” Support for the people who put down their money and bought into your creaking ecosystem and bought Nokia hardware to use it.

My profound lack of trust in Microsoft is the reason I chose to stay with Samsung and Android this year; despite actively wanting to support Nokia. I simply do not believe that Windows Phone is ready to compete with Android or iOS . . . yet. Now it looks as if the hardware Nokia have produced (so far) will not be upgraded to WP8.

Beyond Bad, Balmer! An utterly terrible decision for Nokia and the whole ecosystem.

Wow. First you read all the stories how the Lumia 900 is selling out all over the place, now the negative attack rumor mill stuff to scare away potential new customers. I cry bullshit. Yes, a dual core will run faster, yes more resolution is obviously going to one day come, but the whole idea behind MS/Nokia’s plans is to make a good, AFFORDABLE platform that kicks ass. They have done it. They are selling out. I switched from a iphone 3GS and after a week with the Lumia 900? Never going back.

if this was true to everyone than nobody would touch android whos upgrade paths have been dodgy at best with handsets promised updates that then never came and the same with tablets – glaxy tab, moto flipout, htc desire, motorolla xoom etc and thats just in my limited usage. Also to top this story off MS are upgrading the current handsets they have confirmed this many times and even today it was once again confirmed by a much more reliable sauce than this nonsence.

you are right though about torpedoing the ship and that is why this news comes about and then sits at the top of google searches even after newer news comes out. It is garbage spread by people who wish to derail MS and windows phone because even though its small now nobody has a better base. Android is just a power hog and ios and android are both old. Android has fragmented itself to destruction and we will see it crumble as with all bubles and they will then have to do what MS did and go right back to the start.

This is total and utter garbage and MS have already stated that all windows phones will get the next major update. The reason they dont want to comment yet will probably be more down to the fact that there will be the lower spec phones ie the tango phones that will be for developing markets that will go on there own route. This rubbish is just garbage created by anti MS idiots like Eldar who all have there own agender and keep getting proved wrong (Eldar said that no apps would work on apollo but that was rubbished already he is a joke and why anyone reads his junk s beyond me).

Even more deep trouble for Nokia. I got yesterday the Android 4.04 (ICS) upgrade into my more than 1 year old Nexus S and everything was working as expected. Even on a single processor and a half a Go, ICS run smooth on it. The N9 is still my preferred phone due to the so useful and nice Swipe interface.

There must be at least one smart person inside WP Towers who will speak up and say that (if this is true) if Apollo can’t be applied to older WP phones – and by October/November the Lumia 900 will be older – then it is absolutely *game over* for them. It’s not just Nokia that will be punched in the face, but HTC and Samsung, who while winning the lottery everyday with their Android phones, will surely feel the pain of losing sales on WP phones too. There isn’t anyone I know who would buy a WP today if they knew a major update is coming in say 6 months that they can’t/won’t get. Hopefully all of this is utter BS, and that all WP can receive the update. Otherwise, I shrug my shoulders and say Microsoft entered into this mobile game without the knowledge of how this sh!t works; serves ‘em right!

This story could potentially torpedo the whole ship. It will be tough to get potential customers to adopt WinPho7 with any volume if the word gets out they can expect to not see an update to the next version of the OS. A recurring topic of conversation is the sense of entitlement we have now about mobile OS updates; is it truly warranted or not. Regardless of which side of the debate you favor on that topic, the truth is that 2 years on a phone that receives no updates seems to be a lower value-added position than purchasing a phone that you do expect to get updates. While I definitely question whether I am “entitled” to updates when I buy into a phone, when I do buy one that winds up not being supported, I definitely stay away from that manufacturer when it is time to re-up. Had the ICS update never come through for my Nexus S 4G, I would certainly be staying away from Samsung on my next go ’round, and may have even steered clear of a Nexus phone altogether, regardless of who built it.
