Nissan Frontier Diesel Runner rolls into Chicago Auto Show

Nissan has unveiled an interesting new Frontier truck at the Chicago Auto show this week. The truck is the Nissan Frontier Diesel Runner. We already knew that Nissan was working with Cummins to put a diesel engine under the hood of the full size Titan truck. What we didn't know was that Nissan was considering putting a diesel engine under the hood of its small truck, the Frontier.

The Frontier Diesel Runner uses a 2.8L Cummins turbo diesel producing about 200hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. The 2.8L Cummins engine is a four cylinder and promises fuel economy 35% better than a v6 powered Frontier.

The special Frontier is clad in wheels from the Frontier PRO-4X and has a bed cover among other touches. Nissan appears to be serious about producing this truck, it is openly asking for comments on the vehicle. Truck buyers in the US love diesel power and putting a diesel four in a small truck would likely prove very popular.

Nissan also rolled out the Versa Note SR at the show. The SR version of the car gets some special interior touches like a leather wrapped steering wheel, suede-like fabric seats with orange accents and double stitching. The Versa Note SR has a 1.6L 4-cylinder engine mated to a CVT. The engine produces 109hp and 107 lb-ft of torque.
