Nintendo apologizes for banning Super Smash Bros. players

It seems this past weekend, some of Nintendo's 3DS players ran into trouble with Smash Bros., ending up with a temporary ban that kept them from playing online. The reason wasn't apparent, though some gamers figured out what was going on, and now Nintendo has issued an apology.

It seems the issue revolved around playing as Princess Peach, in particular with the character's "pulling turnips" move. If that move was performed immediately after the game kicked off (online play, that is), the system would perceive the gamer as cheating.

Unfortunately, a widespread ban took place over the weekend, kicking off players who weren't using the cheat. Nintendo has apologized for that action in a statement on the matter, saying that it is working on a patch to fix the bug. If all goes as planned, players should be seeing that fix in the next week.

The bug bans players from online play for 24 hours, so while the process is underway, players are advised to avoid pulling the offending move right after an online play game starts to avoid the banhammer. For more Nintendo news, check out our related tag portal.
