Nintendo has really come under fire after their “geeks and otaku” comment. Probably the most humorous bashing was of course, from David Jaffe. Thankfully, it seems that Nintendo is aware that a large portion of their customers are concerned about storage space, and are dedicating themselves to finding a solution…sort of.

Wii HDD

We definitely detect that they [gamers] are serious and we know there is an issue in this, so it’s something that we’re working on.

If you read only that quote, one might think that they were hard at work on some sort of external storage solution, right? Think again.

Definitely there’s no plan to issue hardware, an external hard drive, but we know that we have an issue in that area. It’s very obvious and we’re perfectly aware of it, but there’s nothing we can say beyond this.

So wait, you’re going to work on a solution to the lack of storage space on the Wii, but you aren’t going to work on a hardware? Perhaps they’re going to wave a magic wand over their servers and shrink the size of every single file, thus freeing up plenty of space on every Wii. Seems perfectly logical.

All they need to do is add support for USB drives. So, they don’t have to release hardware.
