Actually, it’s selling significantly better than the DS did in its first year. A year from now, no one will doubt it anymore. It already owns Japan, which is where the vast majority of successful software for dedicated handhelds comes from.

It’s true that the 3DS won’t ever be as successful as the DS. That doesn’t make it a failure.

Also, this article is flawed. Nintendo’s annual loss will only be a paper loss (unless the loss turns out to be more than double what they’re expecting). The exchange rate is really hurting them, but that’s not mentioned here because it’s SlashGear and they want to show how Apple kills everything.

Forget Console price, drop the software price.
How on earth can you sell the SAME game for TEN TIMES as much on the DS as the iPhone?
Check out Plants Vs Zombies pricing.
Nintendo are having a laugh if they think £20 (£30) and up is fair for something most people pay less than £3 ($5) for (AND ITS BETTER ON IOS!)

The days of paying £30 for a mobile game are WELL over, even nintendo’s download options are way overpriced, and pretty rubbish.

They need to get with the cross licencing, drop software prices and they MAY have a shot, otherwise, its all downhill from here.

And their margins have been trashed. Their sales of the 3DS are dismal in comparison to the DS. Not hard to double a low number lol

Sorry iPad, but the closest thing I’ve ever seen to “Magical” was Nintendo’s 3DS. That 3D display is amazingly cool. The depth behind the screen draws you in like a Harry Potter magical newspaper. I was skeptical that Nintendo could pull off the non-glasses 3D but they really did it spectacularly.

One year ago I had four kids with Nintendo DSi’s. Now I have two who upgraded to the 3DS (my boys) and two who upgraded to the ipod touch (my girls). If Nintendo continues to lose the casual gamers it is in BIG TROUBLE.
