Nintendo 3DS firmware update and eShop coming June 6

The 3DS eShop firmware was previously expected to land on June 7. Nintendo has now announced that the firmware update will be hitting North America on the evening of June 6, a few hours before we expected it. The update is free and will be offered via the WiFi connection integrated into the 3DS and your home broadband network. The update will add some very cool and welcome features.

One of the features added will be the web browser for the 3DS and the big feature is the eShop that will allow the user to get information on games and purchase downloadable content for the console. To celebrate the launch of the eShop Nintendo is offering a free download game. The game is a remastered 3D version of the Nintendo classic Excitebike and it will be available until July 7 as a free download for all that install the update.

Nintendo 3DS users will also be able to download the free Pokedex 3D application to collect data on more than 150 Pokémon from the Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version games. The app shows the Pokémon in 3D with sound and animation. The AR tech of the 3DS will also allow the user to view the Pokémon in the real world and share pics with friends. The update also allows owners of a DSi and DSi XL to transfer previously downloaded DSiWare games to the 3DS. A future update will also include an app that lets users watch 3D movie trailers and video.
