Making short movies surely, cause i’m not sure that real movie makers will make their movie on any kind of SD Cards. And what about the batteries life, how a descent movie can be made with a 1000 and 2000 pictures battery capacity. At even 24 frames per second just imagine how long the movie will be. We are in a photography world. I don’t make my laundry with my hyundai … It sound so silly to make a camera making movie ! That’s a pure marketing approach. Camescope have lens made for movies, they are built for this kind of job. Come one how can we judge a camera just by the image done with it.

you can say someone in marketing made a mistake, but it still doesn’t make the D800 any less of a camera. now if the “joy ride” video, which explicitly was said to have been shot only by a D800 and actually posted on the official nikon usa website, was found to use footage from other recording equipment, that’s a different story.

just because this marketing mistake happened, it doesn’t erase the fact that the D800 has uncompressed HDMI out or that it has autofocus in video recording. it could just mean the marketing group was short on time ahead of the release and didn’t go out and pay people to shoot videos with the D800.

*ESPECIALLY because they are advertising an IMAGING product, and thus when watching an advertisement consumers associate the images/videos with the product being advertised.

Even without knocking on the Canon vs. Nikon flame wars – the action itself is quite a big no-no.

Even if it didn’t say “shot on a Nikon” it’s quite a faux pas for Nikon to be caught using a product of a competitor to advertise ESPECIALLY because

It’s quite possible that some low-level people bungled this up, but the video was an official release by the Nikon company and the company itself has to take responsibility.

In the end, you don’t use Adidas shoes in a Nike-sponsored event and vice-versa.

They never said it was shot on a Nikon or Canon or anything else… Do I assume a commercial for Canon is shot on a Canon camera? No. Nor do I expect that commercials for Sony are shot on Sony cameras… Whoever lifted the footage without permission made a mistake, but it has nothing to do with the camera or quality of it… I’m still waiting to see that before I decide to buy or not.

There is a real Nikon D800 demo video on Vimeo, called ‘Joyride’. It knocks the hell of what I’ve seen the 5D MKII do, and I’m a big fan of the Canon. Although I do wonder what the new MKIII can do…
