This is not a debate about which is better – Nikon or Canon – when it comes to cameras. Comparing Nikon and Canon is like comparing apples to apples. They are both popular and reputable brands yet photographers seem to prefer one over the other.

Well, I work in the advertisement industry. You have no idea how much these cameras are saving us in rental fees. We recently picked up 2 5D Mk IIs, most companies in my country are doing this and we absolutely love this HD-DSLR storm.

Making short movies surely cause i’m not sure that real movie makers will make their movie on any kind of SD Cards. And what about battery life, how a descent movie can be made with a 1000 and 2000 pictures battery capacity. At even 24 frames per second just imagine how long the movie will be. Wow. Your posts are idoitic. You clearly have no clue what your talking about. Yes, amatures worry about equipment. But you sir are no pro. I have a D200 and would out shoot you any day of the week with you using your Iphone. In fact, I would outshoot you with my old Dimage 5. You clearly do not know what you think you know about photography. While I will give the Iphone props for a camera phone, thats all it is, a camera phone. Try shooting some landscape photography with it and selling it. Your photos will be distorted. Try shooting sports photography with it. How many photos do you think you will get? Try shooting a wedding with it. Point is, while it may shoot acceptable photos to share with your friends on facebook, it is no where near what is needed for any seroiuse photography.

Seriously? Did you know that people have been making movies with DSLRs for a couple of years now? Yeah, HIGH end filmmakers and videographers. Guys that don’t want to shell out 10s of k’s for hasselblads and PDW-F800s, and REDs. And they’re putting the savings in their pockets. Or buying cars a helluva lot nicer than Hyundais with their profits. NO ONE shoots production with an iphone. Plus this new cam can also broadcast video. That’s a HUGE difference maker….

I love that you threw in that comment about the subsidized price. Not many people realized it. How may iPhone sensors would one have to string together to make a full frame? Over a hundred for sure. Bu that math the 3000 is super cheep. 100 iPhones = 60000

that he had been misquoted and that none of the footage was actually
shot on an iPhone. He claimed that he was speaking to the new
technologies available to filmmakers, the iPhone being one of them.
However, none of “The Avengers” was shot with an iPhone.

Actually, Riccardo is right… Compared to other videos on the web, like those shot with a Canon 5D Mark II, this video appears to have less detail in the shadows.

These videos are produced for the web to give us an idea of the capability if the equimpment.

I still like this camera, but I can’t say I’m impressed with this sample video.

Wow. Some folks britches are all bunched
up. All I was saying is exactly who is the D800 targeting and accomplishing? High-end
videographers? I doubt it. Those guys will be renting Red cameras, or
Sony PDW-F800′s instead of buying a DSLR. Professional photogs? I doubt
it. They’re already carrying around Hasselblads, Mamiya’s, D3x’s, and
1DS-Mark 3′s.   Low-end videographers? Nope, those folks don’t
have the coin and are happy with smartphones. Low-end photogs? Nope,
those folks don’t have the coin either and again smartphones and Point
and shoots fit the bill.  Which leaves the middle
class/pro-sumer. Which, if they know what they’re doing will be loading
up on high-quality lenses instead of high dollar bodies they’ll want to
replace in 24 months when technology triples. And if pressed and
absolutely have to have a physical camera, then go and get a Fujifilm
X-10 or Canon G-1x.  Which leads me to say, that after looking at the D800, I’ll just keep my Iphone 4S.Like my grandpa once said, amateurs worry about equipment/cameras, intermediates worry about composition/framing, and the pros worry about available light/weight.

You’re comparing an iPhone 4S to an FX camera? Full frame cameras aren’t targeted to the “masses”. The second part of your statement should be – your carrier subsidized iPhone 4S is only $200. If you purchased it unlocked, you’d be in the price range of $649 – $849 or roughly 1/4th the cost of that used Hyundai you’re looking to pick up. Now that I think about it. Why are you even comparing Samsung and Apple to Nikon to begin with? I’d love to see what your 4S and i-Pro lens can do with low light -

$3k for a camera/camcorder? Really? My Iphone 4S is only $200 and has Siri, Apps, Internet, 8mp and can make calls and shoot video in 1080p. Even bits of major motion pictures is shot with an Iphone now (Avengers). With the right light and post processing, I bet hardly anyone can tell a difference between the D800 and a smartphone. I’m sure they’ll sell a few to the professional crowd, but when it comes to the masses, Samsung and Apple is eating your lunch. And I can pick up a used Hyundai with the money I’ve saved. Come out with a full sensor camera around $1k and you have my attention.Until then, my 4S and I-Pro lens works beautifully.
