The D600 is coming no doubt, Nikon self has announced the introduce 2 more camera's for 2012 after the D800 and D3200.
I expect the Nikon D4x or D5 with the Photokina in september in Germany, this camera will be a studio threat for Hasselblad (read Fujiblad), Leica S2/3 and all other MF cameras with a 33x44 sensor.
Nikon will have a square sensor based on the 36 sensor in the D800, introduction of 3 or more full circle lenses will be also happen. 135/1.8 , 60/1.8 and 35/1.8 of course auto crop for FX and DX.
Later in 2013 the D4S with 4k movie

it's not as clean cut as that any more. If you're just documenting for home video or the web then and HD video camera will do [$1000]. If you're doing Videography professionally then any decent HD camera that meets Broadcast standards (8 bit 422 compression) will do [$4000], and if you want to do independent movies with a more filmic look then any camera with a Super35 or larger sensor with interchangeable lenses will do [$6000+]. What people want is one camera that can do everything for a good price, doesn't exist...yet. But the Canon 5D MK2 (not just any ol' DSLR) was a step in the right direction. That's why professions were really looking forward to the next generation of DSLR hoping that maybe they could get the illusive low cost do everything camera. Didn't happen unfortunately. The MK3 fix moire and aliasing but at the cost of detail. Doesn't have clean HDMI to be able to get Broadcast eligible video. I produces the cleanest picture (not sharpest) and because of it's high ISO is best for off the cuff filming. Which most videographers tend to do.
Nikon D800 produces the sharpest image, at the cost of moire and aliasing. Has clean HDMI out and full Atomos Ninja support to get broadcast eligible video (good for documentarians). It produces the most vibrant picture, but not the cleanest so it's better for more controlled filming. Which an independent film shoot should be. If only you could combine both cameras, then you'd have something.
Problem now is both Nikon and Canon have dropped the ball on low cost video. Canon is more focused on competing with RED and Nikon just got in the game. But there are others who have seen the market and need, and are making some really cool video cameras that can do everything and have that small form factor. I think the age of DSLR video making is ending, unless they find a way to do it even cheaper. $4000 for the Canon MK3 is a bit much and that's why the D800 is more popular right now. If they can get one out for $2500 they'll be golden.

Sometimes wonder if the tech writers have done their proper homework before writing these articles.

The D800 keeps up with the 5D3 in ISO performance up to about ISO800 and ISO1600 (at a stretch), after which it falls behind significantly ...

As for video, the writer should read up respected DSLR videographer Dan Chung's article on their comparison .... He feels that in most forms of usage, the 5D3 is still preferred.
