I was very fortunate to shoot both the Canon 1DX and the Nikon D4 for three full days. I Shot wildlife, a wine tasting in low light a dog show, some landscapes. I loaded a Lexar 1000X card in each camera and chose to shoot Raw+Jpeg. The Canon 1DX shot 23 shots before the buffer filled, the Nikon D4 shot 43 befor the buffer filled. Most pros would just shoot raw where the Canon 1Dx shot 37 and the Nikon D4 53 before they slowed. The canon also failed to fire hen a person wore black and had a dark skin, where the nikon fired. From a Resolution perspective the Canon looks better contrary to the DXO Mark report. The one issue the 1DX had was intermittent over Exposure. If they can resolve this issue I and the ablity to focus on Black I would take the 1DX. For now I will wait for the Nikon D4S.

As an event photographer often in very low light situations ( awards, school balls, etc) I can wait to get my hands on the D4. Yes I am paying for the extra video functionality – which I won’t use. But my work will be 10 x better.

I was under the impression that these videos weren't quite apples to apples. According to advertised performance, what this is showing is that Nikon shooting RAW at 10-11FPS (not JPEG), fills up it's buffer before Canon shooting JPEGs... DUH! With the XQD card, the D4 is supposed to pump out over 100 RAW files, individually metered, and focused at 10FPS before the buffer fills. Is the 1Dx set to meter ALL it's JPEGs, or was it exposure locked? Little things like this makes a difference to people that use these cameras for real, and not just to read the numbers and masturbate to one of them. Besides... who professionally shoots in only JPEG!?

I for one hate this silly speculation and number fapping and can't wait for the REAL production models to duke it out in the REAL world where it really matters.

I agree with several comments about this 'review': useless! 2 months before release and it is still not possible to take any test shots with the Canon 1 DX. The rest is pure hype. I am a pro Canon user and anxiously await an upgrade from my 1DS mk3 (with better video capabilities than the 5D Mk2). Canon's coyness is beginning to be very annoying and unconvincing!

The test was referring to how quickly similar card buffers would get filled. With the Nikon having the XQD option the buffer would take much longer to fill due to the card speed. Agreed the camera wouldn't take the image any faster but realistically who can keep up with 11fps anyway.

The Canon 1DmkIII with faulty AF outperfomed many D3s in AF accuracy... There is to say that 1Dx at 14fps is not able to use servo AF (continuos AF) because focus is achieved only in the first frame, but it can use servo AF at 12fps anyway.
the Nikon won't outperform the Canon using XQD, the shutter won't go faster than 11fps, not sure where you're getting your information. the canon will definitely always be faster. the question is why did they make it slower. my hunch is even though the canon is faster, more of the Nikon's shots will be in focus, completely negating the advantage. canon is more into sacrificing performance for spec hype, whereas Nikon could give a crap about hype. their pro models tend to nail AF much more accurately (d700 absolutely wastes a 5dmkii). regardless both seem like a dream to shoot sports.

With a higher bit-rate Jpeg image it's understandable that the CF card on the Nikon would fill up quicker. All the above test proves is that the Jpgs on the Nikon are a higher quality than those from the Canon.

What you failed to mention is that (for this very reason) Nikon also support the new XQD cards which run at speeds of up to 10 times that of the current CF cards - use one of those and the Nikon will outperform the Canon by miles.

Bit of a rigged test if you ask me.

Totally meaningless info but after reviewing the videos;

The Nikon D4 took slightly longer than one second for 11 frames whereas the Canon 1DX took slightly less than one second for 14 frames.
The Nikon D4 managed 126 frames (11.498 seconds) before shutter slowed down whereas on the 1DX video clip, there were 273 frames (19.975 seconds) before the shutter slowed down.

Viewing the waveforms produced by both cameras, the Nikon is more uniform in its frame to frame cycle duration than the 1DX which seems to have slight variances in duration for each frame to frame. The Canon 1DX has a longer noise duty-cycle than the Nikon D4.

I'm amused that you're treating "more chips inside!" as support for your declaration that one is superior, in spite of the fact that you know nothing of the cards inside, haven't shot with either camera, and have neither (I presume) edited and shipped or printed a real world image from either.
