You don’t need expensive lenses/cameras to enjoy getting the good shot. Just take a look at some of pictures taken before digital cams existed. Also I can so see the advantage of fast ready to shoot speeds- many times I have missed that ‘moment’ as I’ve waited. Mind you ultimately it just elps me improve my studies of the subject so I get better at ‘feeling’ when a moment is about to happen and I am ready. Besides it is a poor man indeed that blames the tools (or lack thereof) for missing the ‘thrill’ of good shot.

“It’s not that hard”?? What? Yeah because learning the ‘art’ is easy. Have you spent any time on Flickr- lots of folks claiming they are artists and well, not so much. Anyone can take a picture- few can take something amazing. And there are oodles and oodles of Pros who will tell you it ain’t the equipment that makes the shot. That being said- having a fantastic foundation for your toolset like this is just… wow!

I disagree. I’ll take less mp and low noise at high ISO over oodles of mp every day. *Most* people including pros do not print at 4×6 FEET so 24-36MP is not required. However if you find you need to crop photos a lot or print something to fit the side of an apartment building then yes MP may be more important. I am confident a D4x will be out down the road to address the MP people. That said the D3s outsold the D3x which means that low MP low noise outsold the higher MP D3x. If Nikon is only coming out with one of the two, the D3 / D3s will be replaced first.

Fast ready times and high ISO range are two critical items for a lot of pro shooters. Being able to turn on and shoot is key for sports and nature photographers, and I myself prefer to shoot wedding ceremonies in available light. Fast lens and low noise high ISO are needed for that. We are talking about a $6,000 camera body. This is a pro body, not aimed at the general public. If you want lower expectations and a lower price don’t look at the top end camera in the lineup.

This comment means you’re obviously oblivious to full frame cameras. 16MP on a full frame is very different from a 23 MP 1.5x or 1.6x crop cameras. The increase MP on crop systems does not equate to better image quality, because the quality of the image is calculated based on the area, meaning pixel density.

Show me a modern digital camera 20% of the price of this can that shoot 11 FPS / full frame / ISO 204k / 50+ AF Point system, same low light performance. And ohh.. yeah WEATHERPROOF. Can’t come up with one? Because they don’t exist.

Sit down and keep shooting with iPhone n00b. This camera is incredible for that price…and I shoot Canons.

You must be kidding right? Nikon has hardly engaged in the MP gimmick war. Huge MP is important, but high usable ISO setting is what the pros are looking out for. And that’s who the D4 is for – the pros, not suckers who think MP is everything.

Well when I got my 60D I was so glad that the “wait” time to take the first shot after powering up was what less than half a second I am running to Ritz to order a camera that can be ready before my next breath. R they kidding. Spend the R&D on readying a camera for shooting in less than a 1/100 sec? OK great. And 204K ISO. That’s wonderful. Good algorithm. Those programmers deserve a raise. Let’s face it that’s all gimmicky ads. I would rather see the big companies including Canon improve their top level lenses and lower their markup so us average shooters can enjoy the thrill of a good shot. These new DSLR’s are really just eye candy for newbies to crave. I get it. Now lower the expectations and the prices and we’ll talk.

16mp is way unacceptable for this price tag, by next year you’ll be sooo regretting this purchase. For 20% of that price you have gear doing the same and with higher resolutions. What were they thinking?? That for 6k????

I have to ask myself how much of this performance is required by a seasoned pro. There are cheaper cameras on the market which may not give you the same performance but give you exactly what you want for near half the price. I say keep your money and learn the art. Its not that hard
