Nikon Coolpix P700 camera specs rumor shows 1-inch Aptina sensor

Nikon is always working on new digital cameras and some rumored specifications for a camera set to launch soon have now surfaced. The camera in question is the Nikon P700 compact ultra zoom. This camera isn't to be confused with the Coolpix P7000 camera that Nikon launched back in 2010. The biggest feature that the rumored specs highlight is a big 1-inch Aptina made image sensor.

The camera is also tipped to use a 24-2000mm F/3.5-8.5 lens that is full frame equivalent. Despite having a body made from magnesium, the camera is tipped to be very heavy. Weight for the P700 is said to be on the order of 1.3kg or 45.8 ounces.

On the rear of the camera is a 3.5-inch LCD screen for viewing images. In addition to that 1-inch Aptina made sensor, the camera is also tipped to have an Expeed 4 image sensor. Nikon is expected to announce the camera officially in May. The P700 is thought to be an update to the existing (and pictured) P600.

The P600 has a 1/2.3" image sensor and a lens that is 24-1440mm equivalent. There is no indication on the pricing for the P700, but consider this is a significant update all around compared to the P600, which sells for about $450, and the price won't be cheap. A comparable Sony RX10 with features similar to what the rumors claim for the P700 sells in the $1300 range.
