Nikon 1 V3 unveiled with WiFi, vari-angle LCD

Nikon has taken the wraps off its new 1 V3 digital camera, a compact offering with what the maker is hailing as a world's first for interchangeable lens cameras: 20FPS continuous shooting when using AF tracking. In addition, the camera is said to have the shortest lag time of all cameras in the same category.

The Nikon 1 V3 features 171 contrast-detect AF focus points, and 105 phase-detection AF focus points, which Nikon says trumps the tracking abilities of DSLRs. Beyond this, the V3 is the first in Nikon's 1 series to offer a virtual horizon function for the viewfinder and live view display, which is able to detect both pitch and roll.

There are three function buttons and two command dials, as well as a highlight function that allows photographers to detect highlights in photographs. The LCD, as mentioned, is a 1037k-dot touchscreen vari-angle display measuring in at 3-inches with an 87-degree high-angle and 170-degree low angle.

In addition to the LCD, the camera also has a .48-inch 2359k-dot color TFT LCD viewfinder with 100-percent frame coverage. The camera has wireless connectivity for easy image sharing, and clocks in at 18.4-megapixels. The camera will be available in April for about $1200 USD.
