The “smartphone” moniker was always an excuse for shoddy, defective operating systems and inept designs.  Palm OS devices typically had 8 MB of storage, yet could handle all of your contacts and calendar appointments with no problem.  Not to mention third-party applications.  Years later we had 32MB phones that didn’t even have fields for addresses in their contact lists.  ”Oh, you need a SMARTPHONE for that,” was the excuse that you’d hear.

BS.  That’s why Apple predictably waded into the market and took it over simply by delivering something that didn’t suck.  That’s also why sales numbers don’t prove that something is good: Millions upon millions of cell phones were sold with these pathetic OSes and UIs.
