Next Porsche 911 GT3 may get a stick shift

Porsche is a car maker that caters to enthusiasts as much as any other car maker. Porsche has branched off form its sports car roots to make some SUV and four door models, but it still has a slew of high-end performance cars. The top end of Porsche naturally aspirated track cars that can be driven on the roads isn't the 911 GT3.

The problem for some purists with the current 911 GT3 is that the car is only offered with the dual-clutch Porsche PDK flappy paddle gear box. While we can all admit that the PDK is faster and easier to drive than the manual, it's just not the same as rowing your own gears.

Reports indicate that the next-generation 911 GT3 will bring back the manual transmission. Buyers of that next-gen car will have the option of choosing a manual rather than the paddle shift transmission. The manual for the next generation car isn't 100% confirmed at this time, but Porsche execs are aware of their folly with the dual clutch only 911 GT3 available now.

Porsche's Andreas Preuninger, head of the Porsche GT program has said that it was the company's goal to allow buyers to choose between the dual-clutch auto and the manual three-pedal setup. The PDK may be faster, but there's nothing quite as enjoyable as perfect heel-toe shifting on the track.
