Are you serious? People want to sell their items and get quick cash for it. Gamestop provides that service for them in much the same way a Pawn shop works. As far as the developer and publisher should be concerned, once they sell the game the customer owns it and can do with it as they please (as long is it is legal).

This idea that the video game industry is above all other industries (imagine if you didn't REALLY own the car you bought. That if you sold it the person you sold it to only got the chasis and no wheels until they payed the original manufacturer more money. Or imagine if you bought a book and didn't REALLY own it and if you sold it or let your friend borrow it chapters were missing unless they payed the author more money.) Thinking about it like that makes you see how absolutely ridiculous this is. I think I am done with the console gaming industry after this generation.

the used game business hurts the the industry but this will also kill the rental business as well. i make ok money but i can't afford the risk of paying $60+ for a game and hating it. i've cut my gaming down significantly anyway and mostly just buy the big name blockbusters i've played for years (God of War, Uncharted, Killzone, Final Fantasy, etc). so i've probably worked my gaming to a point it won't affect me too much but this may be suicide for Sony and MS if they go through with it since so many do go the used route, which does sell DLC btw. guess we'll see what happens in the coming months/years.

Does nobody understand that game developers are going to loose massive amounts of money developing for next-gen, only to have their games be re-sold without a profit? Sony is doing this in the best interest of the developers. Many developers have come out saying that in order to break even next-gen, games will have to cost $100 or more.

So they're going to kill the entire video game rental / pre-owned sales industry? WHAT A FREAKING JOKE - that's how I get almost all of my games.

Oh & forget about asking a buddy to borrow a game to try out...or swapping titles after you each have completed the respective game.

Rumors has it that both PS and Xbox are both going to have the Locked Gameplay and Anti-Used games feature. I have not read or heard if nintendo will do it too but if they all do it it will be bad. Anything to make more money. Looks like it's PC from now on.

retail game stores are no longer profiting as online downloads is becoming faster and easier. the creators know that since we are getting faster connected they no longer need discs

discs leads to pirates
ways to hack system
less reliable than a hard dives
they would need to sell it to business for much cheaper so they can also make a profit

all these restrictions maybe a way to push as towards downloading right from them for higher profits.

mass effect on psn £49.99 hmv 27.99 discount= amazon £22.99
fifa psn £55 hmv £29.99 amazon not checked maybe a lot cheaper
call duty mw3 psn ? live ? amazon around £29 tesco £25 when brought with psn £25 points hell yeah.

hell no. if this is the case. good bye console
if psn and live sells games through downloads only it will be for directs profits. they would get twice as much then acting as a supplier

they woul have full control

I remember gaming not so long ago when you could take a game and memory card to a mates house and play from where you left off. The PS3 has made gaming unsociable, everyone sitting on their own playing over the internet.

If a game is locked to an account I have to log in at my friends house as me to play, hopefully saved games will be cloud based and not on the HD and that's a death to renting games as they will be useless once registered to someones account and I assume you MUST have an intenet connection to play which is stupid, internet for online games and updates only, a console should be capable of playing games offline.

Would you like to tell me what update killed the PS2 backwards compatibility on the 3? Because unless I've been high, my PS3 with software BC is still running the PS2 games like a champ (except the ones that are known to give software BC a fit... I'm looking at you, Ratchet and Clank).

Now, they stopped making units that had BC in them back in 2007 (the first 40GB model, I believe), but any unit that was sold with it still has it.

Look, MS - Sony, if I end up buying only a Nintendo Console because I've yet to hear anything about Nintendo restricting used games I'm going to laugh at you. I already refuse to buy any Ubisoft games because of the DRM. If you stop me from letting my brother borrow my rightfully purchased games I will simply not buy your games. If parents who happen to have two consoles in the house so that both kinds can play find out that the games wont work on the other console they will also consider buying a system that will let them do just that. Your going to kill your business models. Congratulations.

Sony (and to some extent Xbox) have failed the consumer.

By stopping the backward compatibly, and now locking a game to a console. So when kids of divorced parents change houses they cannot take games with them? When they have friends sleep over they cannot bring games? When your console dies or is stolen , you have to buy everything all over again? Both Sony & MSoft forgot it's younger kids that drive the market. They have almost total failure of developing games for younger players, or considering their lifestyle. They are not developing the younger audience to keep a pipeline of buyers to make future purchases. One of the reasons for PS2 success was PS1 games played on it (with only a couple exceptions), that allowed for a console system upgrade , continue playing games you own, and the ability to move into the next "tier" of games. Both Sony & MSoft have lagged in sales to Wii. Is it any wonder why? Wii although technologically inferior to either of the other systems was backward compatible with game cube. It allowed you to play your existing games AND it gave you the ability to experience new things like the Wii remote which caused purchases for new titles. One of Sony's biggest mistakes was there was virtually no software for the console when it was launched. Since you couldn't play your old games, you had to wait for new new titles to be released , or new compatible versions of old titles. Sony effectively made their console not worth purchasing. Never mind the fact that most parents were not keen on dropping $900 (vs $350 for Wii) on a console for kids when almost every title of software was not age appropriate for younger players.
