I spend most of my day staring at my computer monitor, but a new technology developed by Tokyo-based Active Inc. promises to let me spend my day staring through my monitor. Which begs the question, why would I want to?

The new “composite LCD display” uses liquid crystal optical film, rather than LCD backlights. This allows you to see through the screen to what is behind it. I love the picture that they’re using. You’ve got what appears to be a family standing together for a portrait, a random floating screen that isn’t hooked up to anything depicting a sunset, and a woman that appears to be enjoying the sunset. How strange.
We’re not sure when exactly we’ll be seeing this technology show up, but I doubt it will be any time soon. So we should have plenty of time to think up a good use for it.

Replace all the windows in your house with them - bring a girl over, and show her that it’s too dark and stormy a night to go out, and that she’ll have to stay the night…
I would say an easy way for retail stores to target window shoppers with brainwashing commercials about their products and specials.
seriously? it’s not obvious? i would think this is perfect to overlay a graphic display on your windshield as your driving.. think transparent google maps + directions w/o having turn your head.
I’d use it more as a media player, have Television playing on it, and have a my real computer monitor in the back, so I would never miss a good moment on tv while playing my favorite MMORPG.
