New TomTom Go navigation range launches in the US

TomTom has announced that it has launched an all-new TomTom Go range of portable navigation devices in the US and Canada. The devices are redesigned and aim to reinvent how drivers use navigation with new map and traffic interfaces. The Go series will come with TomTom Traffic.

The TomTom Traffic feature helps to pinpoint where delays on your route start and end. The goal is to help drivers get to their destination faster. The TomTom Traffic service can be accessed via smartphones using the free TomTom MyDrive mobile app.

That allows the driver to access the Traffic data using the smartphone data plan. TomTom Traffic covers 99.9% of all roads and uses crowd-sourced data. The data has precision as close as 30 feet and is updated every two minutes. The nav devices have high-resolution touchscreens. The maps are touch sensitive allowing gestures like pinch to zoom.

Users can find a location they want to visit on a map using touch and then tap the destination to get a route there from where they are. The maps on the new nav devices are 3D with buildings and landmarks rendered. Additional details on pricing on the new TomTom Go range will be coming closer to launch in Q1 2014. Expect more details to be offered at CES 2014.
