According to a new study, Blu-ray is not faring well over in the European market. The study found that HD-DVD players are outselling their Blu-ray competitors 3:1.

Unfortunately, the figures are somewhat misleading since they, like other studies, don’t take into account PS3 sales. The PS3 makes it very difficult to track sales figures because many people that own PS3s may not even use it to watch Blu-ray titles. While on the other hand, some people may buy one because it is a cheap Blu-ray player that also happens to play games.
It’s great to look at all of these sales figures and think that one may be winning over the other, but I don’t think that either one of them looks like it will be the clear winner any time soon.

HD DVD holds the same 70% lead in standalone units in North America. Also, based on sales data, it is widely accepted that 1 standalone unit sold = 4 Playstations (PS3) sold, because HD DVD sells 4 movies per player while Blu-ray sells just one.

well at the end of the day it is the one who has the best content that is going to win and that said it means that blu ray has an advantage cuz it got more support from big hollywood studio. also playstation is also helping because i doubt if someone has bought a ps3 are not going to watch at least one blu ray movie on it. price might matter now but soon both system will be cheap cuz unlike dvd this is just an upgrade on the former format rather than a new technology like from tapes to cd. at the end of the day let them fight for our money it will means better product at cheaper prices
