New iPod Touch release date set for late October

During the iPhone 5 launch a couple weeks ago, Apple announced an update to its iPod Touch lineup that would include the same 4-inch screen as the iPhone 5. However, we were only given an "October" release date, so we weren't sure if we'd see them at the beginning of the month or more towards the end. Today, it's said that Australian users are seeing a ship date of "3 weeks" on Apple's website.

The new iPod Nanos are also seeing the same release date as the iPod Touch as well. Frankly, we're surprised that Apple is taking this long to release the new devices. In the past, it was the iPod Touch and iPod Nano that got released before the new iPhone usually, but this time it's exactly the other way around.

The iPod Touch comes in six different colors and comes with a lot of new changes from the last-generation iPod Touch. The larger screen and the addition of Siri are two of the more obvious changes, but it now comes with the faster A5 processor and is thinner than ever with a 6.1mm thickness. The camera can now shoot full 1080p HD video and the device even comes with a "Loop" to attach a wrist strap to.

For what it's worth, the American Apple website still states "October" as the ship date, but you can pre-order the new iPod Touch if you haven't done so already. It comes in 32GB and 64GB flavors for $299 and $399, respectively. If you haven't taken a look at our hands on of the new device, now is a great time to do so.
